Hot brass, IMO, isn't the issue with leverguns that it can be with gas-operated semi-autos. Usually, with a top-eject Winchester .30-30, by the time you rack the lever and pick up the empty case, it's not hot. Besides, as I recall, they usually kick 'em over your shoulder... usually roll off the brim of my Stetson.
