I have an old Noble Model 20H 22 single shot bolt action. Does anyone know anything about them? It has what's described in ads as a 'rebounding firing pin for safety'.
Noble went out of business in 1973, and my example has no serial number, so it was made pre '68. IMG_5079.JPG IMG_5081.JPG

Noble's been gone a long time, and they seem to have made decent but modest guns for the most part. To use a car anology, they were more like AMC than Cadillac or Corvette, and just don't get much collector interest. They didn't have an equivalent of the Javelin, or even an oddball like the Pacer, at least not that I am aware of.

I wonder why the rebounding firing pin was considered 'safe'
I think S&W bought Noble's shotgun designs and/or patents. Not that S&W is known for shotguns!

The S&W Model 916 (S&W's first pump action shotgun) was based on the Noble Model 66; S&W engineers corrected what they saw as problems with the design.
I had a S&W 916; my son has it now. It worked for me for years. It was clunky, but it works still.
But like a lot of Noble's designs it was made for economy and Noble guns tend to be regarded as expendable tools. If one finally breaks, the cost of repair is likely to exceed the resale value of the gun. It would be ironic if that attitude turns existing working Noble guns into collector's items.

Added: That photo reminds me of the .22 rifles that every one had behind the farmhouse door when Dad and I would visit family on the mountain. Nothing fancy, but they protected the livestock and added meat to the table.
