non-knife or weapon edc for school

Going back to school soon, they have a no-tolerance for weapons policy, but I like having something to cut stuff with. One thought was to get a used Leatherman Micra and remove the blade (by disassembly or hacksaw) which would leave me with a perfectly functioning pair of sciccors, nail file (might have to remove that too) pliers I think, can opener etc etc.
Another thought was a $2 pair of folding stainless steel sciccors I have (which I carried at school last year.)
yet another thought was a P38 can opener- but those look kinda scary.
Does anyone know how to remove the knife and maybe file blades on a leatherman Micra?
Anyone have any suggestions on what to get instead? I was thinking Swiss Utili-key, but that might cound as a weapon.
If I removed the knife and possibly file blades from a Micra, I think I could carry it. We have 4'' folding sciccors in our backpacks, but they're a pain to get out.
 
If you are talking college and there are no metal detectors in the buildings, I'd carry a modest SAK like the Soldier or Tinker regardless of the rules. High School etc; nothing at all.
 
Not trying to be a jerk here kid but you're going to risk getting kicked out of a private school just so you can carrying a blade. That makes no sense. If my son did that I would get arrested for child abuse.

innocuous thing I know of that actually has a blade would be the Olfa Touch Knife which has a tiny little blade that protrudes about 1/2 inch and retracts automatically unless you hold thumb pressure on it. I think 8830 has a good point though - why risk getting bounced from private school for a silly rules infraction?
 
you should read my original post more thouroughly. I said non-knife, blade, etc- so maybe title would be better called best folding sciccors (which I can carry)
 
I agree with the above, if we were talking about college, just get a good multitool, SAK, or modest folder. But since its high school, why bother carrying anything that could be misconstrued as a weapon? You'll get your time to do whatever you want, but for now, just abide by the rules. Especially since you are fortunate enough to be in private school.
 
dang, it was a no-go on the micra- guess I'll just carry the sciccors (they are on our required supply list, no worries)
 
My favorite non-weapon "weapon" is training. My favorite non-weapon "tool" is a large steel pen.
 
If you want something to "cut stuff" get a pair of EMT shears. Not the smoothest cutting edge available, but they will cut a huge range of materials. Opened up they'll cut packaging open as well.

Improvised weapons at high school? Long discussions on those have abounded here. Search older threads in NonFirearm on the topic with posts by a young man in a slightly different school a couple of years back (winstonsmith). There were a lot of discussions on what he might and might not find beneficial.
 
If you view the "knife" or scissors as a potential weapon for high school, I'd leave them home. That is why they are banned. If it truly is a tool for your use during the day, then maybe that does the job you need whatever that might be. Be honest. Frankly, in high school, you have little need for a knife. Leave it home and abid by the rules.
 
22rf- my original post said non-weapon EDC to use to cut non-threatening stuff (paper, boxes, etc) I would in no way use folding sciccors as a weapon.
By the way, Strambo, what is the make/model pen you use and how much does it cost.
If I need something to defend myself with I can take a roll of quaters (preferably wrapped in duck tape) a nut with some paracord, a baseball bat, or my 30 pound backpack (guy I know got a concussion from being accidentally hit in the head with one)
 
If all you really want is something to cut paper with, then use the scissors as allowed by your school.

By your sudden interest in the steel pen recomendation, it is obvious that you are looking for a weapon to sneak into school. All I will say is medium sharpie ink pen.
 
Yes, I know you said "non-weapon" in your original post. You seem to be more interested in weapons that don't look like weapons. Not good. How often would you actually cut a box in high school? I was going to add more.... ahh, why bother. You will do what you want to.

oh, but cutting boxes I mean like donut boxes and stuff. Cutting through tape, kinda hard w/sciccors. not cutting up cardboard boxes. Sorry for any confusion.
Probably haven't been clear enough with this thread. I said I'd carry the sciccors.

the main reason I was asking about the micra is because I am on student council and need to help w/dances. This includes light, fog machine, sound systems, stuff that needs to be screwed and unscrewed. Also opening boxes, cutting ribbons, etc, stuff my knife does in the summer. The school policy says that no weapons will be allowed on campus at any time, or at any school-sponsered event. So, when I go out to my friends farm, can't take knife, multi-tool, or paintball gun.
This also means, when I get my car, that I can't keep a knife multitool etc in it unless I park off campus.
I don't want you to think I want to carry a "deadly" weapon in school. I always have my really heavy backpack with me, and I'm also 6'5''. I learned my lesson about fighting in school back in fifth grade. I got suspended for punching a guy, I know this is no joke, and I value my enrollment in this school.
Thanks for the advice, everyone. 22RF, I appreciate your concern for me. I didn't want to carry a weapon. I wanted something to cut open shrink-wrapped stuff (and I just looked at the sciccors, which I hadn't seen in about 3 months, and realized the had a pointyer tip, not flat, so they can cut packaging tape and shrink wrap, hard to get under)

Wenger and Leatherman both offer TSA Approved tools. You may want to look into those.
 
wow, that leatherman looks nice...but I don't really want to belt carry around school. But it would be good to keep in the car- (does a car count as part of the school if its parked on campus?) any previous cases/laws concerning this (our rules weapon-wise are pretty much the same as public school.
 
School campus includes the parking lot. I wish you had put that you were a part of the student council and such. It would have helped with why you needed a blade. If the scissors you carried last year work then why do you need something else. Since you're on the student council why not get written permission from the principal to have a knife or box cutter on you for when you need it.
 
oh, if I actually need to ut up a cardboard box I ca get a box cutter from the art room, but I was really talking about opening boxes.
And also it turns out a teacher who I thought was leaving isn't, he always has a Leatherman with him and he helps out the SC.

Not to be a Richard, but.....................all weapons are deadly.

What do I know though. I went to school when knives weren't something to be scared/ashamed of.
 
Cold Steel makes a "weaponized" marker called the Sharkie that's specifically designed for self-defense. Costs all of six bucks online.

There's also a widget called a "travel wrench" (also known as an "impact kerambit") that is unrecognizable as a weapon, and works pretty well as a wrench; in use it's kind of like lightweight, legal brass knuckles. Also cheap.

You can take both of these anywhere, even on an airplane.

Not for you, but for old guys like me (unless you're willing to fake a limp for the entire school year) is a good stout walking stick. You can carry one anywhere without raising an eyebrow, and if you need it it's already in your hand. It's not used as you'd expect; there are videos around for instruction. I'd rather have my Irish Blackthorn in my hand than any knife when the action starts.

I don't know what you're worried about, anyway. I've taught in inner-city public schools and in private schools. I've actually used my stick, and more than once, in public school--but in private school, the worst behavior I ever saw had more to do with being rude than with being violent. You see, the other kids don't want to get kicked out, either...
 
thanks for the advice. This thread was about tools, not emergency self defense, though.
Other options would be:roll of quaters, kubaton, sciccors, chair, backpack.
