Is there any reason I can't use Winchester 209 primers for loads that call for federal 209A? There appears to be two loads that the only difference is the primer brand and the wad. All the primers are the same right?

If you can find the same powder charge, wad, shot charge loaded with both primers, and producing a safe result, sure. Otherwise, NO!

With shotshell loads, you don't get pressure signs until you are way into the danger zone. Stick with published loads or you'll win a Darwin award.

So as long as I use the same charge of the same powder and same shot charge the wad and primer can honestly cause it to kabloomy? Do the primers ignite with different umm, speed or something?

The Federal 209A is a "Stronger" (hotter) primer than the Win 209.

You can use the Win 209 in place of the FD 209A, but your velocity will be less.

Do not use the FD 209A in place of the Win 209 with out reducing the powder charge to compensate for the difference for the hotter 209A primer.

Ummmmmm,,,-- YES!

Not speed exactly, but the correct term is brissance. Means intensity of the flame put out by the priming compound. More flame, quicker powder ignition, higher pressure. Often referred to as a "hotter" primer.

Stick exactly to published loads, no variance. Shotgun max. pressure is only 10,000 PSI. It don't take much over that to start stretching things.
