Northern Ca shooting locations (NOT RANGE)

I'm going to the Hayward Oakland area on the 4th of July I want to take my grandfather and uncles shooting but don't want to go to a Range, what I want to know is where can we go shooting legaly (not range) somewhere we can put up empty cans have a cookout and have a few drinks. I want to go to a heavy wooded location willing to drive 3-4 hours to the wilderness might as well camp out there.

good luck; unless you know someone with a ranch or other private land, there is no close in shooting areas to the east bay. There's a nice range in Livermore (used to live right next to it) that may be ok;

I'd post this question on Calguns; i moved from kali 4 years ago and there may be somewhere I didn't know existed, but IIRC most of the places you are describing are BLM land towards the Sierras or other areas.

Cow Mountain, Ukiah

I think your best bet would be cow mountain. It is unfortunately a range but the same area has camping, off roading etc. It would be about 2 hours from oakland. I go there from santa rosa and it's about an hour. The idea of just driving somewhere and shooting in Arizona is probably easy but in california unless you know someone with land your best bet is just to find a range that will acomodate camping etc. Best of luck
