Think I just found my deer load. Loaded up some Nosler 165 Partitions for my 30-06 over 57.0 grains IMR 4350 that cloverleafed at 100 yards. Ladder tested up of course, wanted to reach 2800 fps Mark, which it did in 48 degree weather with 45 percent humidity. 5 shot group with an SD of 6. Loading more for further evaluation. Anyone have these loaded in similar powder/bullet combos?

I tried them in .308 and never could get consistent accuracy compared to other bullets in its class, which means absolutely nothing.

I’m happy to hear you’ve found the magic!

What grain, 150? I have found IMR4064 works better for me in 150 and under. Maybe event Varget for under 150. Thanks

165 Nosler Partition ,and 57.0 gr ,IMR 4350 ,that is the exact bullet and load i have used for 20 years ,always did what i asked of it ,accurcy and game wise ,i think writer John Waters always said that was the best load ,in an 30-06 , but cant get to my copy of his book pet loads ,i think writer John Barness ,fills the same

It was the same 150’s you are using in your ‘06

I never gave them a shot in my ‘06. Wish I would have now. I ended up giving the leftovers to a buddy

Thanks for the info. This load isn't even showing pressure signs, nice to know what you posted.

I choose Nosler Partitions for big game hunting bullets even if others are a little more accurate. I have never been sorry. I have downed several animals with less than stellar bullet placement and was always able to recover the game.

I'm glad that it worked out for you.

I'd hope not, you're just a hair over the minimum starting load, but that'll kill most anything you'll hunt. You're just over 308 level loads, and the 308 kills 'em just as dead as 30-06.

I don't think the Partition is ever a bad choice, but my 30-06 REALLY likes the 165 gr Accubond and 165 gr Hornady Interlocks. It's just so accurate with those that I've never tried the Partition.

The data I used from Nosler shows this load as max. Screenshot_20181021-183747.png

That load with a 165gr Partition, 165gr GameKing or 168gr MatchKing or Hornady match bullet has been excellent in any 30-06 rifle I have shot them in. H4350 works just as well in my experience too.

I have never tried H4350, but intend to. My understanding is it is basically the same as IMR4350 but more stable in really cold weather. Thanks

I have found most of the partitions like a little jump to shoot their best, but as a hunting bullet, I don’t usually worry too much. I find a happy place for group size 0.8-1.2moa and go kill stuff.

Your right, my Weatherby likes therm 20 thousandths off the lands.

With nosler data, when they have mixed weights, they're appropriate for the heavier weight listed, equally the etip is included, hodgdon lists 168 imr 4350 max at 58.0C. 165 gmx max is 56.6 and 165 cup and core (Sierra gameking, but closer in composition to your partition) max is 60.0C

I like nosler data to get an idea for which combos will get me close to my goal, but use the actual powder manufacturers' data when I hit the press because of nosler's loosely formatted composition of data.

Funny, I was sighting in my 3006 this afternoon with the 165 Partition over 49.5 grains of Varget. I got a little vertical stringing (due to some combination of barrel heating up, increasing nose deformation with subsequent shots, and/or my shooting), but everything was tight enough that this is a 300 yard elk load for me. I have a target the size of a manhole cover, so if I get a 4 or 6 inch group at 300 yards I don't think it matters. All that said, I put this load together when Varget was the only powder I had on hand that might do what I wanted. I have since acquired a pound of IMR 4064, which Nosler suggests is the most accurate powder with this bullet. I am set with what I have for this season, but is it worth trying to come up with something better? I do not much enjoy shooting full house 3006 loads, so this is very low volume shooting (box a year, tops). Plinking and deer loads out of this rifle are done with cast bullets.

All very good and useful points in regards to min/max loads with published data. Another big factor of course is COAL. It just so happens that the 3.300 that I believe Nosler publishes in their test data puts me at exactly 20 thou off the lands in my Vanguard 2. It all depends on how much jump or how little your gun likes. Of course you consider that even though loading longer increases case capacity it could also increase pressure if you jam it close to the lands. Amazing truly it is the science and different variables that must be considered for safely developing that favorite load.

Took a similar load 180 Nosler Partition - IMR-4530 load to Africa in 2012 and again in 2013 - 6 one shot kills in 2012; 5 more in 2013. Worked for me 30 pound Diker through a Blue Wildebeest. Longest shot was 220ish yards on a Springbok.

Hit them in the vitals and they will drop,

Good Luck

Jerry
