Please read this very carefully before responding I could see this being a very touchy subject.

I didn't realize that the Presidential Motorcade was going to pass my School this afternoon, but since it did I went out to the street to watch I realized, to my horror that I was carrying, I have a permit and all that but if ever there was an oppurtunity for a REALLY BAAAAD mis-understanding getting caught waiting for the President W/ gun would be it.

Long story short I decided I didn't have time to go put it up & still see the President so I went out and stood on the street not 30 feet from The President of the United States with a loaded gun.

Stop and think about that because there is not another country on the face of this planet that would allow there citizens that level of trust.

God I love America

I walked into a Publix in Tampa a while ago during my lunch break and almost walked into Gov. Charlie Crist. I was literally a foot away and armed, said excuse me and moved aside for him and 3 state troopers. Didn't think about the .357 in my pocket until after the fact. My first thought after that was what a great state and country I live in.

IWB Galco Summer comfort & CZ75B .

I don't care if the President was in a tank there's still no place else on planet I could have got that close to a world leader W/ gun just as a matter of circumstance.

Very astute observation.
4 of our President's have been assassinated by firearms, 3 at extremely close range with handguns.
Only Kennedy was shot at distance with a rifle.
So I agree with you.Only in America would this trade off be possible.
That's why I love America too.
Very fine post,treo.

They don't really trust you at all. You have to oblige by their rules before you get the 'privilege' of carrying a gun legally.

When you think about it, we have a pretty bad assassination ratio. 10% of our presidents? Not a bet I'd want to take.

Aye. They don't trust you. You probably would've been tackled in a heartbeat had they seen it, or at least they would've gotten the Decider out of there in a heartbeat.

Not only that, you were standing thirty feet away from a man in an O'Gara-Hess up-armored limo. Up until the 1930's, anyone could drive up to the White House in a taxi.

There's no trust.

can you blame em for not trusting? i mean you never know when some internet hero will get froggy and actually do something besides rant from a keyboard/ts hard to sort the men from the poseurs

iv talked to a number of federal officers, varying from Marine Corp sgt's to FBI officers while carrying. all on public grounds. and all legal. but generaly the FED has treated me better than the state

congrats on being that close to the pres. many worse states would never let you get that close

( oh my family got an invitation to see Clinton many years ago, im pretty sure we burned it)

if for some reason the secret service does evergrab you just go along they are rather forceful once they commit to action real polite till then

Stupid question, is the president compelled to drive around in a heavily armoured limousine, or is it one of those "highly suggested but not, strictly speaking, mandatory" things? If the president were, say, a sports car aficionado, would he be able to drive his Corvette (or whatever) to places he needed to go?

Back in 05 when President Bush visited Atlanta, I was trying to tender some freight at AA Cargo. AA Cargo sits next to Omni Air International, whose ramp Air Force One sometimes uses when the President comes to town. Ok, enough with the back story....

So like I said, I was tendering some freight when I notice a guy walk by me dressed all in black and carrying an assault rifle. Being the nosey sort, I stopped him and asked what was going on. He tells me that the President is going to land shortly, and that nobody can leave. I look out the door and sure enough, cops are everywhere along with the Secret Service and the media.

Great, I call dispatch and let them know that I am stuck at AA Cargo till Bush clears the area. Then it hits me.

I have a gun in my pocket. :what:

Bear in mind, that I am legal, but the rules change when the President is around.

I had no idea what to do. Should I keep my mouth shut? Should I let one of the Agents know? What to do, what to do?

I decided that discretion is the better part of valor, and I went outside and sat on the steps to wait for the President to leave. What happens? A Secret Service Agent comes and stands next to me and starts a conservation. Yay.

Mean while, President Bush comes out and waves to everybody, speaks a few words to the media and gets in his limo and is off. The SS Agent bids his farewell and is off too. But not before giving me a package of Presidental M&Ms :D

All in all, a very uncomfortable 45 minutes or so.

Here is to you Mr. One upper

absolutly nothing to do with this thread but,

well I think its a better Idea to leave this one untold never mind.
If I ever get the chance I just want to look under the hood and see what the powerplant is.

Aw, dang. I wasn't even five miles away and I had no idea. I would've liked to see the President's motorcade go by. :(

Nice pix, Tommygun.

You can clearly see that the 'Burb has 8-lug wheels indicating 3/4 ton HD chassis, but look how low it sits- obviously armored. The wheels are also obviously run-flats.

The limo, obviously run-flat tires again. You can clearly see how the rear suspension was replaced with live-axle and leaf springs, some heavy springs but showing a lot of negative arch so lots of weight. The armor plating is obvious by examining the depth the rear window is inset to the rear cowl.
If I know those windows, the windows are LCD and automatically switch to full tint with the push of a button.

Our tax dollars pay for some nice kit, there.

Working as a chauffeur in Austin a few years ago, I was walking into the private airport waiting area and all but plowed into Governor Rick Perry and his escort.

I wore the traditional penguin suit and had my issued black cell phone in my right hand. As I began raising my right arm to help hold open the door, unaware of who was there, I was quite impressed with the reaction and response time of the escort persons. In seemingly slo-mo fashion I recall their lightning fast eye movement to the unidentified object I held and the equally lightning fast "pre-movements" of their shoulders in readiness to beat me down and disarm me. Just as quickly, I was labeled non-threatening and they moved on.

I would consider myself well trained if I could maintain half that level of awareness.

A few months ago I was halfway through lunch with the governor and realized I forgot to stow my ccw in the car.

Technically, I wasn't required to be unarmed. It was in a public place that did not serve liquor and I had my permit. But, we were surrounded by state police and it made me a bit nervous about being spotted by one of the cops and suddenly finding my self face down on the floor or worse.

After I left it occurred to me that it really doesn't matter. I was legal and although someone may not have liked it there was nothing they could do about it legally.
