Last Saturday my local club had an all steel handgun match. 200 round minimum. 7 stages, so there were some enormous round count stages.

They set it up with an open class, and said that anything that could be safely used on our steel targets was fair game. They did this for folks who just wanted to have some fun with their .22s or even pistol caliber carbines.

Safe on steel? I thought what the heck, and I used my Saiga 12 gauge. :) I was the only guy to use a shotgun.

Plus their was a shotgun mini match scheduled for afterward, (which I went too fast, and crashed and burned :) ) so all in all I shot about 250 rounds of bird and buck shot in one morning.

I can say in all honesty that that was one of the funnest matches I have ever shot just because of the silly factor. IDPA or 3gun, I show up, and try really hard to do my best, but using a shotgun in a pistol match, it is hard to be serious, but it sure was lots of fun.

One string I racked up a bunch of misses on steel, because even though I hit them with bird shot pellets, I failed to hit the steel good enough to swing it. (vertical plate rack). So for the next string I loaded up buckshot. Try going through 30 rounds of buckshot in 20 seconds. :p Didn't just swing those plates, it beat the heck out of those plates, and it managed to knock some of the free standing static poppers over.

So if you guys get the chance to use a shotgun for a long pistol match, go for it. Just be sure to practice your speed reloads. :p

Just realized I spelled Completely wrong in the thread title. :)

No worries...

We are all looking at "Plus their was a..."

Their range is over there.:D

I couldn't shoot 250 rounds of 12 gauge in a day without fear of my arm falling off.
