NRA Legal Victory

Moreover, dissolving the NRA could impinge, at least indirectly, on the free speech and assembly rights of its millions of members," Cohen added.

gee, ya think? That's what it's all about. It's not an attack on the NRA, it's an attack on us.

The courts ruling is indeed great news. I've read the ruling. Up until now I've been on the fence regarding WLP but no more. Based upon actions that he admits to it's apparent that he has come to regard NRA funds as his personal piggy bank that he can dip into at will and spend lavishly on himself, family, and friends. Hopefully the BOD will get off its butt and get rid of him immediately.

That's good news. Despite the negative things the NRA is blamed for, between insurance and club support I think they do a lot of good. Also, having them in the room takes the focus (targets) off smaller organizations. I do think WLP has stayed around longer than he should've. I'm glad my membership isn't due for a while. I'd really wrestle with renewal right now if it was.

My advice is to become a voting member of the NRA and elect the directors you feel will support your positions. Also, as a voting member you don't have to pay dues once you are life member. I still contribute several times a year.

My opinion, for what that's worth, is this is a rebuke of the AG's case for trying to dissolve the NRA, but that she could pursue individual officers, like LaPierre, for abusing their positions for personal gain to the detriment of the members and the organization.

Attorney General Letitia James had sued the NRA in August 2020, accusing it of diverting millions of dollars to fund luxuries for officials like LaPierre, with no-show contracts for associates and other questionable expenses.

Justice Joel Cohen of a New York state court in Manhattan said that while James offered "a grim story of greed, self-dealing, and lax financial oversight," she did not show that the NRA, which is incorporated in New York, benefited from financial misconduct or could not legitimately serve its members.

"The complaint does not allege the type of public harm that is the legal linchpin for imposing the 'corporate death penalty," the judge wrote in a 42-page decision.

Cohen said James could instead seek "less intrusive" remedies against NRA officials, including LaPierre, rather than a dissolution that could infringe members' free speech rights.

He said that could include LaPierre's ouster under state laws governing nonprofits, after James described in "meticulous detail" his alleged exploitation of the NRA, abuse of power and "general disregard for corporate governance."

The case is New York v. The National Rifle Association of America Inc et al, New York State Supreme Court, New York County, No. 451625/2020

Executive President does not answer to BoD, which has been the source of the problem for at least the last three decades.
NRA has needed a rules change for how EP (and the inner circle) is appointed for many years now.

While, it's good that the NYS "witch hunt" has been truncated (for now); "we" need a lot more good to come our way.
And, what's worse is all this just fuels the hate and vitriol from the crowd that allows for no tolerance in such matters.

What ever the anti gun orgs use against the NRA and win will work equally as well against your most favorite pro-gun org. If you are feeling comfort level here.

Unfortunately it is an attack on US, but if the NRA staff had kept a clean and honest house this would have not happened. Started has a junior member in 1967, life member 1992, then the rest can't remember the order Patron, Benefactor and Endowment. Also instructor and RSO.

If Mr. LaPierre really loved the organization and the 2nd amendment he would have already stepped down, so by his actions we know what he really thinks of US and the NRA.

I have been a member since

I have been a member of the NRA since 1965. I do not agree with your opinions about the NRA.

Okay, That's your opinion and I have mine. Plus I am a life member of the GOA.

When I went on a visit to the new NRA headquarters right after they moved from the Rhode Island Ave office should have know that things were going to go downhill. It was definitely not what I expected.

D.C. is a strange place it's where I learned the difference between personal courage and moral courage.

On October 1, 2021 the National Rifle Association (NRA) held its Annual Meeting of Members in Charlotte, North Carolina. This meeting was hastily organized after the cancellation of the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Houston slated for September 3-5, 2021. The Annual Meeting of Members preceded the NRA Board of Directors meeting. This year marks the 150-year anniversary of the founding of the NRA.

The major news from the meeting is that Wayne LaPierre, who turns 72 next month, remains in charge of the National Rifle Association. LaPierre was re-elected as Executive Vice President/CEO by the NRA Board of Directors. LaPierre has held the NRA’s top position since 1991.

If he does not answer to the BOD as indicated above, please let me know who selects the EP.

The NRA made sure I got my ballot, so I am voting for anyone that has Not been on the board before. I don't think it will help but who knows maybe.

Thirty years is way to long to be in that position; Mr. LaPierre has become just like the people is always talks against; looks like he maybe our Brandon. ;)

I have been an NRA member for more years than I can remember, but no more.
THEY SOLD US OUT ON feinstein’s ANTI-gun bill. No more NAGR for me.

BTW: WLP and the NRA lawyers settled their lawsuit against Ackerman-McQueen: The NRA's long time ad agency:

Ackerman McQueen And NRA Settle - (onlygunsandmoney.com)

Most NRA members have forgotten the other lawsuit against the NRA Foundation, a tax free charity; by Washington, DC.

The scummiest thing WLP and the BOD ever did was to plunder the NRA Foundation. The NRA Foundation is the organization that trains instructors, funds range construction/improvement and lots of other stuff.

Witch hunt, huh?

Did you bother to read the charge sheet brought by the NY attorney general? You can't make this stuff up.

Then WLP wasted 20 million dollars in an unauthorized attempt at escaping the clutches of the NY law by declaring bankruptcy.
