My annual NRA membership is up for renewal again, and I'm thinking of taking the plunge and going to Life membership. I'm planning to just pay the lump sum and get it over with.

Anyone here do that and get the leather jacket they advertise? What's the quality of the jacket? Reason I'm asking is that if it's "giveaway quality" I might just skip getting it and let the NRA get more bang for the buck on my membership. If it's the bomb though, I'll probably ask for it. :)

I took a deal year or two back to get life membership - no jacket! I don't remember one - may be a new offer.

I am gettin' on and felt this was way to go - regardless of any ''goodies''. On balance I don't want ''goodies'' - prefer they spend money on what matters.

Don't be bought by a jacket!

I pay year by year so I have something to say "Here is why I'm not renewing" with. Life members endorse all future actions by the NRA.

I have the jacket

and it is excellent quality. Costs about $225 or so if you buy it separately.

I particularly enjoy wearing it to court when I file firearms appeals and then serve the town/city clerk with the summons and complaint...... ;)

LOL

This reminds me of the "mystery hat" that I never received from the NRA :scrutiny:

I first joined the NRA a few years ago. At the time, they were running a promotion that offered a free hat with annual membership. I joined, but no hat. I had forgotten about it for about 3-4 months, then I called the NRA and a nice woman assured me that the hat would be on it's way. Well, I'm not holding my breath

I'll continue to be an annual member of the NRA, simply because it upsets the antis and forces left leaning politicians to consider the consequences of voting for anti-2A legislation. However, whenever I receive a mailer from them that says, "donate $32, the sky is falling ...... and we'll give you this great book", I just toss them into the trash. I hope they get their act together.

Brent...

Well, I bit the bullet and switched to Life Member today. :)

Went ahead and got the leather jacket. I usually give a couple of extra contributions to NRA/ILA every year, so I'm not feeling too bad about part of my dues being "rebated" via the jacket.

If nothing else, wearing it to work will likely give at least a couple of anti-gunners heart attacks on the spot. I'll be doing my part by eliminating the opposition. :D

I use the NRA's extra insurance options which you can only qualify for if you're a member (such as extra firearms coverage and excess personal liability), so I like to think that I'm getting much more out of my membership that just pi$$ing off a bunch of anti-gun, PETA loving, tree hugging, acid-freak, ex-hippies.....or whoever it is who happens to dislike the NRA.

Oh....that magazine I get once a month is really cool, too!.

I think that if your looking for "freebies" your looking at the "small" picture.. :uhoh:

Not looking for freebies. Been paying annual dues long enough to have probably paid for a life membership by now. You could say I just paid for a second one. :)

I called and bumped to "life" 5 minutes after the AWB renewal poison pill went down.

The nice lady that took my info asked what size jacket I wanted - nice surprise. I guess it's a promo that runs off and on.

Nice jacket.

Congrats!

I've been a life member many years... the jacket wasn't invented yet when I joined... My hat's are all worn out and gone... Even the windshield stickers are all faded and gone.

Guess I'll have to do some buying if I want any of their promo stuff, but I ain't worried about it!

I became a Life member back in 90-91, just before Clinton and his congressional buddies passed the Brady Bill, it was about $500.00 back then. About 5 years ago I upped my membership to Benefactor. It was expensive but IMO worth it.

I go to the conventions when I can and as you may guess there aren't too many Benefactors who stand when called on to be counted but often there are too many Life members who stand that they can't be counted, which is great!

I hope to see a lot of you in Houston this month!!

What's the life membership go for these days?
Yep, as EghtySx said, $750, but they have an easy pay option now as well -- thirty $25 payments, versus paying all at once.

Another nice surprise when I bumped to life was that you credit for "paid ahead" annual membership.

I was always a sucker for the nice lady recruiting at the gun shows, so I was paid ahead about 4 years on annual. The cost for "life" was under 700.00 due to that little quirk.

Yeah I signed up for the easy pay life deal back in 1998 I believe when the Great Western Gun Show was still at the LA County Fairplex. I am well past half way and that total amount due keeps getting smaller and smaller! Then I had to go and sign my wife up for a life membership and now I have another large balance to work off! :D

Sometimes they have little promos and the jacket would be one of them. The one I got though was for 500 instead of 750. :D :D :D Of course I still give yearly...so they'll here my voice.

Well, I plan to join you this year. Been a Patron for about 3 years now and it's time to upgrade again.

See y'all in Houston.
