In favor of my wonderful cleaning thread from earlier...

I have a concern I noticed from a while before the cleaning, there is a very light rattle coming from the reciver. It is only noticeable when I roll the rifle around (from right-side up to upside down).

The sound reminds me of the hammer strut in my grandfather's Ruger .22 Pistol (the "Original").

Its a concern... The rifle functioned flawlessly, but I'm being cautious because one day, it might give me a problem that will be detramental to the firearm.

Is this a concern? I've heard some stories about disassembling a Nylon 66, none of them were good.

Help!

Oh, ok. If its not loud, I wouldnt have heard it. We had the tv going not to mention there were a few words running thru my head. :cuss:

I'll see if dad knows anything, doubt it. But its worth a try.

Thanks for the links, guys... But I found my problem.

After removing the reviever cover, I had a square nut fall out on my lap...

Looking at a PDF I downloaded, it says that the 2 cross pins with square nuts dont retain anything. But I tightened the nut back up and made sure all the other tightenable things on the rifle were tight and now it doesnt make a single noise.

For the record, I think that was the first time EVER that the reciever cover came off... I found a s---LOAD of what looked like either sand, dirt, or possibly specs of gunpowder around the un-reachable points of the barrel at the reciever and all over the inside of the reciever... ***?

Anyhoo, now its cleaner than clean.

I probably dont have to worry about doing that again until 2020 :)

The receiver cover of the Nylon 66 is a GREAT 'gunk collector'....Powder residue, burned & unburned, vaporized bullet lube, dirt, etc....

The Nylon cover sucks it up like a Hoover... :D  :D
