I have a Frankford Arsenal Impact bullet puller that I have had for years. The other day I went to use it and the rubbers on the collet were broken.I called Battenfield Technology at 573-445-9200 they advised me the O rings cost .15 each.If you are like me and need new O rings it's the place to call.

I have been informed the the O rings can be obtained at Berry's MFG

If you have a "Lowe's" or "Home Depot", they'll have one that will work.

Any plumbing supply will also have one.

Hardware stores, auto parts stores, tractor supply stores, Grainger outlets, Fastenal, or rubber and gasket outlets are potential sources.

Also, if you find an o-ring that is about the correct cross section but the entire ring is too large in diameter, you can section out the excess and glue it back together with super glue. Make sure you cut the ends square. Not necessarily as strong as one piece rings, but just to try to over stretch it.

But, the shell holder idea is a good one as well.

'O' rings? I remove the 'O' rings first then dig out the appropriate shell holder, insert the case in the puller, secure the nut and then proceed with removing the bullet, with shell holders there are two choices, the Lee shell holder that is used with their primer system and the other shell holders used for everything else.

And then there is that story about the shell holder setting on top of the primer that was protruding because it was not seated, that can not happen, there is not enough wiggle room for the primer to get under the shell holder and on some shell holders are designed to protect the reloader from him self or her self meaning there is not enough room to slide a case with a high primer into some shell holders, AND, the hammer type bullet remover is not designed to seat primers and do not seat a primer after adding powder and bullet.

Well if the hammer type bullet bullers were ment to be used with shell holders they would be supplied with shell holders.

But do as you wish, best of luck!

Mine has been broken for years but the collet is crimped to it & it still stays together just without tension. I prefer it this way. It is easier to use. I've tried it with the shell holders for my .223 7 it tore the case up bad. I tried the shell holders for the 30-06 & it work great. The .223 also tore up my collet for the impact puller though.

A hammer puller with a steel shell holder sealing the end is a Plastic Pipe Bomb!!

That's why they come with collets that can let go and release pressure if necessary.

Excellant point RC, plus the fact the shell hiolder does not hold the cartridge tight. it rattles around.

A loose cartridge has a greater chance of igniting the primer, not a lot but enough I'm not doing it.

For those that question this, call the makers, they all have toll free numbers.

I use a Quinetics. The holder does not use O-rings. It is a three part chuck joined by some flexible material. It allows you to loosen the top and dump bullet, powder and case out. Much faster than the RCBS, which I also have.

All of the shell holders I have have a hole in the center so you can seat a primer, so nothing can hit it anyway. After my O-ring broke that's all I have used. It's a lot faster too.

The problem with using a shell holder, is that the round is sloppy loose.
And if it should happen for the primer to hit the edge of the shell holder

KABOOM.

No thanks, I'll take the extra second or two to find the right collet.
Then it's tightly held in the center of the hole.

I guess I will go against the grain here fellas. I use a shellholder to do it. It works way better for me. Have yet to see a round blow up that way. I also shoot lead in my glocks and walk under ladders. Some of us are just downright ornery, mean, stubborn, and stupid. Please be patient with us.

I guess you can add me as a nominee for the "Darwin Award", I'm another shellholder user. Only thing different is, I picked up a second set and opened up the holes. Living on the edge I guess. It's kinda like loading up someones pet load off the www. Turn head, cup and pull trigger.

Except for the stupid part so was Dale Earnhardt.

I said for years, I never had a bad reload. Well after 50 some years of reloading one slipped thru. Being ornery, mean, stubborn, and stupid has nothing to do with being safe.

Course the above is one reason we have lawyers!

" if it should happen for the primer to hit the edge of the shell holder"

Interesting idea. But primers are (properly) set below the head AND the shell holders have both a largish primer hole and (most) have a relief slot to prevent even high primers from making contact with the shell holder. Thus, there is no conceiveable way a shell holder can make contact with a primer when pulling bullets.

Every one can fear what he wants, I have no fear of pulling bullets with shell holders.
