So I went to my first shotgun match last weekend. Was a ton of fun. There was a lot of mid-stage reloading involved which I wasn't really prepared for. I had all my shells in what is best described as US Army M9A1 "man purse". I had a lot of trouble getting my hand in and out of there in a hurry.

So, I want something that can hold shells and be quickly accessible. Needs to hold at least 10. I want it to attach to a belt (either a regular belt or a 2" nylon belt I have lying around). I'm not interested in gun-mounted carriers such as side saddles.

Doesn't need to be fancy or tacticool. I'm in this for serious competition, just want something that won't be so hard to use as what I have.

I've seen some (one by Blackwater) that looked suitable but use MOLLE attachments. I don't think that will hook onto my belt, right?

And last requirement... I'm a cheap bastard. Something around $30 would be good.

Maybe a couple of these if you want something that is functional and looks nice.

Once upon a time, I had an army surplus shell holder like this:

This is what I use:

http://www.amazon.com/40007-DIGITAL...e=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1259772046&sr=8-7

It has elastic lips on the top, so if you should go to ground, or maybe need to go prone, the ammo stays inside. However it poses no obstacle to reaching in and quickly removing rounds.

I have 2 of them, and on your budget, you can get 2 also. Why 2? Buckshot in one, slugs in the other.

I haven't shot competitively, I have used these for classes.

+1 for snarlingiron. Whatever you may lose in speed with a dump pouch, you'll gain in ahving those shells exactly where you want them and nowhere else. You can get a cheap Molle rig for the match and attach the pouch to your hip.lower chest/side, strip the pouch down and grab and go. I wouldnt recommend a molle shotgun shell holder for speed as youll have to manipulate the loops. a lot of speed is in your muscle memory. There's a lot of schools of reloading methods, personally I do roll over reloads. I have big hands, I grab three shells at a time, roll the gun over with my offhand and load with my trigger hand. I would not do this out in the open in a life or death situation, but speedwise it's what works best for me. I also recommend a dump pouch or a variation on one for select slug drills, as you dont want to lose your shells and you also dont have time to neatly tuck them into loops.

Like anything else there are many options and then there are options that work better than others in certain circumstances.

I must admit these, California Competition Works Speed Stripper, work well for most successful shooters in 3-gun type competition. However, if you spend a lot of time going prone you may have better luck with a pouch.

I would like to think of myself as an inventor but I see no reason to make a new wheel when wheels are already available that are better than I can ever utilize.

I guess I'm just getting old these days but I have always preferred the old ALICE shell pouch. They hold 12 rounds and I never lost any shells carrying them around in that pouch.
