I just saw on the local TV news (King 5) where an area high school freshman is in trouble for wearing an anti-gun cintrol shirt to school today.

He was wearing a shirt with the infamous Hitler quote about gun control.
What got everyone all riled up was not the pro-gun message but that it was a quote by Adolf Hitler and he wore in on the first day of passover.

He has agreed not to wear it until the school board can make a decission.

There's nothing about it on their website yet. Hopefully they will have something about it later and I will post a link.

At least it will being the quote to the attention to a lot of people.

Hmmm. Wasn't there a case where a NRA shooting camp attendee wore his NRA shooting camp t-shirt to school and was sent home. The NRA filed suit and the kid's First Amendment right of free speech was upheld.

This is a classic case of people reacting to SYMBOLS rather than MEANINGS.

The MEANING of this shirt is a warning not to allow that which the SYMBOL stands for to ever rise again.

In a rough parallel, most of the shambling sleeples react postively to the SYMBOLS of the Constitution, Liberty and Freedom, but fail to appreciate their MEANINGS.

I guess I don't quite understand why remembering the danger of suffering such evil to exist is "wrong" on Passover.

For more than one enemy has risen against us to destroy us. In every generation, in every age, some rise up to plot our annihilation. But a Divine Power sustains and delivers us.
-From the Passover Narrative

I watched that on the news tonite...yea I know it is surprising that we southerners HAVE electricity much less a TV!!:D

one of the things that they mentioned was that he wore it during a Jewish holiday...They didnt want any of them to be offended...Parents have said that if kid is disciplined by the school then they will prolly sue...

In addition to "The Myth of Nazi Gun Control," see "Bogus Gun Control Quotes" at http://guncite.com/gun_control_gcbogus.html

The "Hitler" Quote That Wouldn't Die: "1935 Will Go Down In History!"

"This year* will go down in history! For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!"
---Falsely attributed to Adolf Hitler, "Abschied vom Hessenland!" ["Farewell to Hessia!"], ['Berlin Daily' (Loose English Translation)], April 15th, 1935, Page 3 Article 2, Einleitung Von Eberhard Beckmann [Introduction by Eberhard Beckmann].

This quotation, often seen without any date or citation at all, suffers from several credibility problems, the most significant of which is that the date given (*in alternate versions, the words "This year..." are replaced by "1935..." has no correlation with any legislative effort by the Nazis for gun registration, nor would there have been a need for the Nazis to pass such a law, since gun registration laws passed by the Weimar government were already in effect. The Nazi Weapons Law (or Waffengesetz) which further restricted the possession of militarily useful weapons and forbade trade in weapons without a government-issued license was passed on March 18, 1938.

The citation usually given for this quote is a jumbled mess, and has only three major clues from which to work. The first is the date, which does not correspond (even approximately) to a date on which Hitler made a public speech, and a check of the texts of Hitler's speeches does not reveal a quotation resembling this (which is easily understandable when you realize that "Hitler" is commenting on a non-existent law). The second clue is the newspaper reference, which if translated into German resembles the title of a newspaper called Berliner Tageblatt, and a check of the issue for that date reveals that the page and column references given are to the arts and culture page! No Hitler speech appears in the pages of Berliner Tageblatt on that date, or dates close to it, because there was no such speech to report.

Finally, the citation includes a proper name "Eberhard Beckmann," which is sometimes cited as "by Einleitung Von Eberhard Beckmann," which is an important clue itself, because it reveals that the citation was fabricated by someone who had so little knowledge of the German language that they were unaware that "Einleitung" isn't the fellow's first name! The only "Eberhard Beckmann" which has been uncovered thus far did indeed write introductions, but he was a journalist for a German broadcasting company after WWII, and he wrote several introductions to photography books, one of which was photos of the German state of Hesse (or Hessia), which may be the source of the curious phrase "Abschied vom Hessenland!" which appears in the citation. This quotation, however effective it may be as propaganda, is a fraud.

[GunCite note: Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, a gun rights group, acknowledges the quote as bogus in the second item of their FAQ.]

I love equating gun grabbers to hitler!!! That has got to really tick them off.

Ha ha ha. I'm sure that crap like this convinces a lot of fence-sitters that President Bush is really an evil person.

Even if it hurts the Angry Left's cause, at least it makes them feel good to vent.

You got that exactly right.

And since when is against the law to offend someone???
Last time i checked freedom of speech trumped your right not to be offended.

So, do ya think the ACLU will jump in to protect this kid's First Amendment rights?

Sorry, I could't resist.

He has agreed not to wear it until the school board can make a decission.

I would have agreed TO wear it until the school board can make a decision.

I guess it would have been wrong to wear a shirt that says "Pork, the other white meat" on the first day of passover as well.:scrutiny: What's happening to this country?

Black92LX: I am sorry to say that in many parts of this country it WILL be against the law to offend certain groups, very shortly.

In fact, I would say it is, in a "de facto" sense, already so--just depends on who the "group" is that gets offended, and who does the offending.

Like illegal aliens morphs into "undocumented migrants".

FYI:

Mr. Bush (no, not THAT Bush, his kid brother Jeb. The Governor of Florida) has just proposed a bill to the Florida Congress that will allow illegal aliens to get State Driver's Licenses...

Because he didn't know. I don't think he's even sure what Passover means.

What gets me is that there has been no mention of it on the King 5 website.

I sent them an e'mail asking for a follow up story.

Black92LX, you are exactly right. Freedom of speech mean you have the right to be offensive and unpopular. IIRC, Jerry Falwell sued Hustler magazine for printing a parody that Mr. Falwell found offensive. The Supreme Court ruled that the right of free speech was more important than Mr. Falwell's feelings.

Ky Larry-

If I recall correctly, Larry Flynt countersued and won, because Falwell used copies of the parody ad without Flynt's permission in Falwells letter campaign. I can't remember the exact details, but apparently copyright law was protected too...
