Yep!

You can get a 5/16" brass rod at a hobby shop or hardware store.

Don't use a wood dowel rod as a splintered wood rod will really make matters much worse by wedging the bullet in place.

This is why I no longer use S&B ammo. It caused my Colt .38 cylinder to split in half, and then had to argue with them before they paid me back. :fire:

It's out

Got the brass rod as suggested (thanx for the suggestion) and used a C-clamp with the anvil of it (with a piece of brass flat stock as a buffer) against the forcing cone then cranked down on the brass rod = out comes bullet.
Strange as it was just the copper jacket. Don't know what happen to the core. I looked to see if it dropped somewhere but couldn't locate it....strange.

Core likely exited the bore and headed down range as the jacket came to a screeching halt. Used to see a lot of half-jacketed bullets advertised, and too-light loads did the same thing. I guess they're still available, but they're not common of late. Guess why...

Yep.

Speer has discontinued the most excellet half-jacket bullet line for the same reason.
They were great performing bullets at standard pressure and velocity.

However, too many people tried to load them at mouse-fart velocity and the half-jackets would stick in the barrel while the lead core squirted out and hit the target.

I saw that happen. Strange, it was not a half or late 7/8 jacket bullet but a JSP with jacket rolling over the ogive and a cannelure. Still launched the core all the way to the target and left the jacket to bulge the barrel when the next shot pushed it out. That one made it to the target, too. We dug the core and the jacket packed full of cardboard out of the berm.

Don't know what happened to the OP, but I guess it is possible that he had a coreless jacket in the box. I found one like that in a box of reloading bullets.

If you had a stuck FMJ without a lead core, it very likely didn't have one in it to start with when they loaded it.

Thats why it got stuck.

Not enough pressure build-up to keep the very light weight, high friction jacket moving.

Now what would have happend if that squib occured when your life was on the line? Ops..

Just food for thought!

My guess is he would have pulled the trigger again and hoped for the best.

He would have been screwed....

Same with a differnt revolver, semi auto pistol, semi auto rifle, bazooka, mounted fully auto rifle, but you get the picture.

I cant figure out what you meant by that comment? Hopefully he would be using a MUCH higher quality SD ammo and alleviate that issue.

I reserve the cheap stuff..............least expensive  for the range. My carry ammo tends to be a "bit" better. But even then I've been producing CO2 long enough to know there are no guarentees in this life.
Can some one calculate the odds of me finding myself in a SD situation AND having a squib round under the hammer when it drops. Can it happen? See "no guarentees" above. Am I losing sleep over it, take a guess.

you have some SERIOUS rats up there in yankee-land

Our Texas rats can't fart NEAR that fast.

So much for "everything is bigger in Texas"

I'm not saying 600 fps is really a slow round but any Semi-jacketed bullet shot under 600 fps is likely to give you problems. Many try to shoot them ~400 fps which is just asking for all kinds of problems...

Hint gang... becouse the gun might jam, squib loads, run out of ammo (after all it IS a 5 shooter), think about a second gun.

I've always felt with very low capacity slow loading weapons one needs a second one. Even two LCRs just gives you 10 rounds, less than a Glock 27 in .40.

So think about that.

Ok-now I got it.

When I carry my LCR-its always backed up by another LCR.

I'm with ya!
