Plan for E. Cleveland gun shop foiled by new ban

11/20/03

East Cleveland- City Council got the drop on a gun dealer this week by banning firearms stores.

Council, sparked by Ken Jackson's plans to open a gun shop at Euclid Avenue and Noble Road, voted 4-1 Tuesday for the ban.

"You don't have to make it convenient for people to walk down the street and get a gun," Councilwoman Mildred Brewer, the ban's chief sponsor, said in an interview before the meeting. "Not in a drug-infested area like East Cleveland."

Police Chief Patricia Lane lobbied for the ban. She noted that East Cleveland has had more than 80 gun-related incidents this year, including seven homicides, and that police have seized about 100 guns.

The opposition came from Councilman O. Mays, who was shot in the hand earlier this year.

Yep, Ohio sucks sometimes...nothing like preventing LAW ABIDING citizens from obtaing guns to defend themselves against the scum.

The city of East Cleveland is one of the most drug-infested and dangerous places to be. Even the cops roll through red lights. (Yes, I've seen it done)
But the liberal "head-in-the-sand" leadership doesn't seem to think that citizens should protect themeselves.

Hey, couldn't this be an "interstate commerce clause" violation? As far as I know, no national weapons maker exists in East Cleveland.

"You don't have to make it convenient for people to walk down the street and get a gun,"

Yo, Ms. Leftist, the criminals are already on the street getting guns.

Why can't the law abiding buy a gun legally?

**Sigh** Why can't they see?

Sorry Standing Wolf, but I will to disagree with you. Ohio has been a police state for many years. From there ridiculess inforcement of speed laws to Taft allowing the OSP to lead him around by the nose.
