Old colt question

I have an old Colt Police Positive .32 cal that I got from my grandfather
It's marked KPD on the butt. Any ideas if it's an old police gun ?and where it's from ?
I had asked my grand father before he passed and he had no idea , he had got the gun from his father in law.
The serial # looks like its from 1913
