hiya, guys.
i'd like to carry my 22/45 to protect me from snakes while i do chores like weeding, hoeing, shoveling, hammering... athletic stuff.
i need the gun out of the way but accessible. i wanna forget it's on.
in my mind, i know what i need but i can't find one.
i need a shoulder holster with a strap across the front so i don't need to attach to a belt.
everyone wants something concealable so they don't seem to make them with front strap, for the last hundred years.
i need this for open carry, not concealment.
so, i'm asking. have you seen anything like this?

Do a Google search for Doc Holiday holsters

That sound more like what you have in mind.

yow!! that is EXACTLY what i want.
the chesty puller thing is nice but that doc holiday is perfect. thank you so much.
i'll go see if i can find one.
i knew that they must have made these in the old days. the design just makes moresense than modern holsters.
i'll be wearing this on my property, but open carry is legal here anyway.
i haven't bothered getting a concealed permit so i sure don't wanna hide it.

not easy to find.
looks like i gotta get a single action to fit the holster,

well, i guess i'm strange but i think the doc holiday rig is better than any modern holster around. especially for people that don't wear belts.
even for those that do.

shovel, i like cross draw but i don't see it being out of the way if it's on a belt.
i wanna be able to work hard but forget it's there.

killed 2 rattlers this year.
one tried to kill me. he struck but hit the fence. he hit way over my waist.

yeah carrying my gun is fun, but a strike that close to the heart means death.

not possible to find doc holiday holsters anyway.
i'm gonna look for a leather worker. all i need is a strap across the chest aded to any shoulder holster.
i may not look sexy, but i'll look deadly.

main, iwent to the pacifi site. the holsters just lie there with a bunch of straps. i have no clue what those holsters do or how you wear them.

youknow, i could get a shoulder holster that attaches to a belt. that would take a half hour to put on, so how often would i wear it when i go out to the garden?
right now, i'm carrying the 22./45 in a big old purse, which is fast to put on, but getting the gun out takes about as long as going back in the house to get it.
if i'm out n the pasture i carry it in my hand. if someone saw me they'd probably feel threatened. not good.

thank you, main. is that the US model?
where did you find that pic? is it on their site?
if you could tell me which one that is, i could pick it up this month, because their prices are reasonable.
i'd stll like the gunfighter one but this would be great for me. it looks like it would fit my 22/45.

I don't know much more about them than that. I read your description of what you were looking for and immediately thought, 'tanker holster'. There are several different styles and makers. You may even find an old leather one in a surplus store.

thank you, main. you have done me a great kindness.
i emailed them, with the pic you showed me n they do carry it at a price i can afford.
they answered my email in 5 minutes. nice people.
i'm ordering this in the morn.
someday i'll get the doc holiday one but this will do exactly what i want.
i can tell just by looking that it will be fast to put on, will keep the gun out of my way n will allow quick access.
perfect.

i'm really happy i found a forum where people are willing to help me.
HUGZZZZ

Note the snap belt loop at the bottom of that holster?

You will want it attached to a belt unless you like getting slapped with a gun every time you run, jump, or bend over to pull weeds.

Holsters end up being pretty personal as to what each person likes or finds comfortable. Many that carry much end up with a box or drawer full of holsters that didnt work out for whatever reason,

The over the shoulder holsters are handy to grab and throw on easily, but when wearing them for very long, I've ended up fidgeting and fussing with the straps and gun placement trying to get it comfortable. I built a similar chest holster for a small frame gun and have had several of the militray ones and one of the El Paso copies for an N frame Smith & Wesson. I couldnt get comfortable for anything but very short term. Same for any shoulder holsters I've used. I've also found any of the shoulder type and tanker type holsters to be quite a bit slower to get the gun out.

You mentioned you didnt wear belts, though belt holsters are what I've found the most comfortable for all day wear, quickest to get to, and out of the way when working. Back to the individual thing though, what works for me, or anyone else, may not be what is comfortable for you. I wish there was a simple answer to the question, but about all anyone can do is say what worked for them.

Best of luck. Finding just the right holster can be a tough job at times.

oh, rc, you hadto point that out.
jtq, the elpaso tanker doesn't have the cross body strap so it's not graetfor me. but they do have a cool doc holiday one that iseven available with really great floral carving. i'm gonna get the pacific one now n i'll save up for an elpaso one, maybe for xmas. they are very pricey with the floral pattern.
i don't at all mind getting 2. in my opinion, this is the best design ever.

hiya mal. i know you have pretty holsters.
well, by accident, i'm doing this the right way.
i'm getting the $40 holster to find out if it's as good as i think it is before i spend big bucks on elpaso.
i'll be surprised if i'm wrong about the best style for me but i'll sure study it.

i gotta say rob at pacific is super nice n easy to work with.
he says i'll have my holster in a few days.

well, i'm hoping it will fit the 22/45.
i guess i should have asked but it has been shipped.
now i feel stupid

It may fit, it may not. You can likely modify it in ways that will allow you to use it without doing any permanent harm. I had a friend that altered his GI tanker type holster for use with several different guns including a revolver by cutting some stitching. Stitching can be redone pretty simply.
