Looking for scope recommendations to complement a new rifle in 6.5 PRC. Most shots at whitetail are <100 yards but an occasional trip west or a friendly 1,000 yard competition will require suitable adjustments. Scope budget is around $1,250 and there are so many manufacturers out there I know nothing about how they compare to Leopold.

I would get a Leupold VX-6 3-18.

My recent experience with other than Leupold has been less than positive. There is probably a high end vortex that would meet your requirements, but I am unfamiliar with them.

One thing I would very strongly suggest is, if you’re looking at them in person, would be to focus your eyes on something in the distance thru the scope and move your head side. The amount of wave and wobble in some scopes is very significant

FWIW, I just turned 68

Edit to add: asking for a scope good for hunting at less than 100 yards means low power/wide field of view. Something for 1,000 yards means high magnification/narrow field of view. Kinda like trying to get a pickup than has a super smooth ride that will carry 10,000#

The Leopold I suggested above has super glass, the 3x should be good to very short range and 18x should be good to 1,000 yards. At least, AFAIK it’s gonna be the best compromise I know of
