Since I got their credit card, they keep sending me good coupons. The first one was buy anything at all, get $10 off (anything under $10 - free!). So I got a 200 round bulk box box of Federal XM193 for $65 instead of $75.

Now they sent a coupon for $30 off any purchase of $100-$200, $50 off $200 or more. I am going back to the well for more .223 when this coupon becomes active on December 4th.

With these coupons, they are actually cheaper than mail order, and they do have all major ammo in stock in Hoffman Estates too.

:D

Not to mention that it's a 1% rebate card and my gas and incidental purchases this year turned into another bulk pack of .223, the yellow UMC bulk pack ($79).

This makes for a merrier Christmas!

P.S. I am a computer programmer, not a Cabela's employee. I read this back and it is sounding like a pitch, but I am just happy for some reason.

The $10 coupon seemed to have no strings attached. The new one says I have to use my Cabela's credit card for the discount to apply, but maybe they have another coupon for people without Cabela's cards.

I get what they are trying to do, get you to rack up your card. But I do pay it off every month so that is a game I am willing to play.

I have been hearing rumors of a Cabelas store coming into my region. If that happens, I will get a credit card. From now until then, I'll do my shopping at Wally-World.

I Love Cabela's

In the midst of the post-election guns-and-ammo buying panic, I went to my local gun store for some panic-induced purchases. .223 ammo? All out. 9mm ammo? All out.

So I drove to Cabela's (which I had never been to before), way out in the western 'burbs. Ammo? Tons. Guns? Tons. Reloading equipment? Tons.

Best thing was that the ammo is all in grocery store-type aisles, and not behind a counter, so you can pick up a box, read labels, prices, and comparison shop.

I grabbed a shopping basket and filled it up. I needed both arms to carry the ammo I bought out to my truck.

Good prices, too.

I used to live three miles from a Cabela's (Glendale, AZ). :) I have a Cabela's Visa and twice used the sale coupons to get two of my favorite guns, a S&W M&P ($100 off) and a 3913LS ($85 off). One bad thing about TN: no Cabela's. :(

Haranguer I feel your pain... It's a good long drive to the nearest one.... Hamburg, PA but I had over $100 in coupons and time off so It was a fun trip this past thanksgiving.
Cabela's has been rumored to be working on a store in east tn or lower VA. The store in GA from what I heard flopped because the area wouldn't give them any incentives to bring in the store and something to do with reworking the interstate exit.

"Cabela's has been rumored to be working on a store in east tn or lower VA"

I've heard near Hillsville, VA. Right off of I-77, and not far from I-81 in Wytheville, VA.

Their gun sales would be good, our Wal-Mart is the #1 Wal-Mart in the nation for gun sales. That would be in Galax, only around 30 miles from Hillsville.

The good/bad thing about Cabelas is that their used gun pricing is totally arbitrary. For every hideously overpriced used gun, there's a nicely underpriced one.

If you guys want a good "free ammo and guns" credit card, get the Dick's sporting goods ScoreCard Mastercard.

I get 3.33% back in Dick's certificates of whatever I buy on it. If I purchase anything at Dick's (which I don't, unless it's from their monopoly money they send me) then I'd get 6.66% back.

The manager looked pretty pissed when I walked out with 11 boxes of UMC 9mm and I paid a grand total of 78 cents for it.

Generally the Gun Library looks to make 30-35% over what they paid for the gun when they sell it. At least that's their starting outlook.

When they buy they usually first look at recent sales of the same/similar used gun across the whole Cabela's system. They'll then cut about 40% off that and try to buy it from you. Gives them a good position for the re-sale at +30%.

The GL is usually one of the highest profit centers in the store. They do well at what they do.

In the end, buying or selling, you just need to decide what the gun is worth to you BEFORE you enter negotiations. If you get what you've decided, it's a good deal for you.

Earlier this fall I got a coupon from them giving discounts using my Cabelas card.It was based on the purchase amount.Bought a Buckmark Camper .22 with that.Used the $10 coupon on National Ammo Day.It's nice living 10 minutes from a Cabelas.:)

I run everything through my cabela's card now. make about 30 bucks a month. Gets their ammo prices back down to just about where they should be.
