One gun:

Honestly... if only one single gun forever and for all uses... I might just consider the new S&W 329PD... Relatively light (though a bit bulky) for every day carry and capable of doing some mean stuff to larger animals.

Of course, with something like this, handloading is pretty much a MUST so as to be able to work loads up to the maximum tolerable power levels. ;)

Or maybe a nice 1911. Original slide in 45 ACP, add a 10mm slide for hunting, a 9x23 slide for fun, and a Marvel for cheap fun.

Or is that cheating? :uhoh:

No question for me, a Glock 20. It can be used for everything from rabbit (with FMJ) up to deer and is also good for any kind of varmint, be it two or four legged.

If we aren't limiting accessories, then I would add an Advantage Arms .22lr for even more versatility.

I like my Ruger SP101. It's fun and I'm sure I could take something out with it. I hurt a bunch of trees last time I was out shooting it. :) If I can't have that daddy I'm taking your...I mean mom's ....G19.

Re: Missouri Class Battleship
-in-all I figure my biggest problem might be conservative stowaways that wish they'd thought of it first.

How about paying for it? And where in the hell are you gonna launch it in Montana?

Smoke.

(Make mine an 870)

Easy!

A properly set up Colt Government model in .45 ACP! I'd cheat and add a .22 conversion unit and since it would have to do the hunting too, a .460 Rowland Conversion unit and a dillion square B press.
That one would do the most jobs in one gun for me, from IDPA, to plinking, to close range hunting, self defense, CCW, etc.
Since it has often been my only gun over the last 3 decades, and I have a great deal of familiarity and trust in it, the choice is/was easy!

Smoke;

Didn't say I was gonna stay here if'n I bought it. If I let 'em buy in, then they'd think they had the right to tell me how to run it.

If I am forced to have one gun, then I know the liberals have already won all the battles but not the war. Therefore, I want firepower and a lot of it. I'll stick with the FAL still.

If the year is 2020, I'll get a surgeon to install superman chip into my hands and my selection will be S&W 500.

FN FAL Paratrooper with shortest legally permissable barrel and a .22 LR conversion kit to go with it.

I'm not much of a bird hunter but I figure that combo should solve most other problems I am likely to encounter.:p

Probably my S&W .357 or my Colt.1911, Government Model. Just one? OK. .357, 4" barrel.

Input on Muzzel-loader?

I think ammo will be traded like cash and may become scarce. (is this a SHTF thread?) Anyway, I think a muzzleloader would be my pick for versatility. Black powder can be home concocted(not real efficiently but can be done) from some old recipes I've seen. Possibly, in a pinch, could it even be made a shot gun of sorts? Any input?

Yes black powder can be homemade. Just make sure that your facilities are far away from your living quarters. Many of them in the past quickly became vast smoldering holes in the ground. :what:

OK, I'll play...

This being first and foremost, a nation of (ahem) Riflemen (ahem), I'd offer that a weird little arm made by Savage with two barrels, one rifled in .30 caliber, one smoothbore in 12 ga. would fit the bill...

Fetching game or defense of hearth and home unless the hordes were attacking... and even then I guess our forefathers made do with front stuffing single shots and some of them even lived to tell the tale.

Maybe a drilling of some type would do as well ;)

Second choice, thinking along the same lines and being somewhat smaller, would probably be a TC Contender in .45Colt/.410... but all things being equal, I'd prefer a long gun to a handgun over the mantle.

YMMV
