I have many friends, as well as myself that carry concealed. I personally keep one round chambered when I carry, however there are some of my friends that do not. My question to all of you is, if you carry concealed, do you leave one round chambered as I do? Please explain your position...

Cocked and locked, safety on. Springfield 1911. I used to carry hammer down w/ safety off and one in the chamber but I later realized it was actually less safe to do that, since I had to lower the hammer manually after chambering a round and it was more work to cock it if needed than just take the safety off. I am REALLY careful when moving it around, though. Someone here likes to say "Booger Hook off Bang Switch" all the time, but He's right!

Cocked and Locked 1911A1 or Glock 19 with one in the chamber.

Explaining my postion...

Whenever I've ever needed my firearms, I never did find an opportunity to ask a person to hold on while I chambered a round.

I practice firearms safety, always assume my firearms are loaded, and never place a finger on the trigger unless I intend to shoot.

OMG never one in the chamber....

You don't need a working gun in an emergency.

:)

Glock 19, one in the chamber. I use the NY trigger, so I'm very confident in the safety of my carry gun.

Always.

As others have said, if the time comes that I need my handgun, I'll probably need it right then. That and the risk of a misfeed while racking under pressure, the chance I'll be injured and be unable to rack, etc.

You are not your friends. Continue doing it your way with the knowledge that you are right.

A revolver solves that problem! Even if you choose to leave the next chamber empty, you can still squeeze off 2 in an emergency just about as quick as 1 trigger pull.

If someone is right on top of you, you wont have an opportunity to chamber, de-saftey, and shoot.

Some scenarios will give you the time to rack and chamber, others wont give you that time, then you are screwed. But even if you can chamber a round with lighting speed, the downfall is that it will still need you to use 2 hands. If one hand is fighting off/pushing off a BG then you will be using your 1911 as a hammer instead of a firearm.

Frequently.
I am unaware of anyone ever changing their position due to one of these threads.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me

Maybe it's because some folks are afraid they'll pull the gun with their finger on the trigger?
Maybe it's because they're worried about hurting themselves?
Maybe it's because they might have to use it?
That's all I can think of right now.

Always, always, always -- loaded chamber! It would like having a house alarm system & not turning it on when you left

I always kept my home, and car defense guns chambered but I carried for a a months or so before I went condition one on my carry gun.

Cocked and Locked safety on like the second post said, I carry the same gun and I would not think to conceal carry without a round up in the chamber.

I figure if you dont carry a revolver unloaded, why would you carry a semi auto unloaded.

If you're Israeli special forces, I guess you can chamber a round and fire before us normal folk can even draw and get sight on target so anything's possible.

if i carry the revolver all loaded (6)

if i carry the p-22 1 in the tube safety off and clip full (10) of friends as well... if i need to pull/shoot i will empty the gun out of fear, i can feel it....

but really why give up the first shot to toe gate opening? i say go full or go home
