I guess it just depends on your experiences...

I have watched a mountain lion over the sights of my drawn sidearm several times over the years, and have about two decades of interaction with them.

Sometimes they are stealthy, sometimes they are not.

I would select the .357 with 158 gr JSP or 180 gr hard cast.
When I get a rig for my Blackhawk it will be my hot handloaded 180gr xtp's in 357 of course.. I gave a box of 50 of those loads to a fellow handgun hunter and he took a big black bear with 1 clean shot. He gave me the box with the remaining 45 rounds and 5 emptys back. That bear weighed 485lbs after being field dressed (gutted). The bullet went clean through and embedded itself in a tree on a quartering towards shot at 25 yds.

The joke around here is to get a big ball of string.

I usually carry a Glock 29. I recently purchased a K6s which I'm getting used to. Having seen a couple of lions I'm really not sure how effective either one would be.

Yes, This is exactly why I often carry a laser on my field p226 :what:

I am old school,and OLD.
So its easy to recall when THE one shot stop record was [ and still is ] the .357 magnum with a 125 grain Federal H.P.
So my choice would be a wheel gun in .357 and a bit heavier than my S&W 360 scanduim, too much recoil
I have a Ruger security six 2 3/4 " barrel,there ya go !

Try a 4" GP-100 .357 with 158 grain SJFP or SJHP reloads with a near max charge of W296. Heavier bullet give better penetration and may be able to break bones.
