Oops... CCWer drives off with gun on top of truck

I was working 1600 to 2400 on night............When my relief came in to take the Radio Car from me I put my gunbelt and Police hat on the roof of my car while we were talking and having a cigarette.........
I drove off without remembering that the gunbelt and hat were up there......
I drove about 45 miles on I-495 to my home in Eastern Long Island and when I got out of the car in my driveway the gunbelt and hat were still up there.....
I guess it was a smooth ride, but I was going 70 MPH at times on the Interstate...................
I never did that again.........!!!

I have a Taurus station wagon with a carrier rack on the roof. I once drove about 20 miles with a coffee cup on the roof in a normal rubber-bottom metal-body cup (with lid). The only downside was that my coffee had cooled considerably, and there was significantly less.
