Open Carry Church Service

The unloaded thing is annoying certainly, and rather silly, but the guys heart is in the right place so I won't hold that against him.

Anything to get some positive thinking about guns.

Because I have a CHL, I carry concealed at all services at our church. It is legal to carry concealed in Texas if you have a CHL.
My priest knows I carry and I am also on our church vestry.
Open carry? Nope.

That was a pretty biased article. Just note how the the first sentence said "encouraging them to brandish firearms..." And that last paragraph was awful, but I think that author might have been being sarcastic.

Open carry? Nope.

I am still not sure that is correct, in Texas and in other states.

Private property owners can, it appears to me, give others permission to carry openly, concealed, or in any other manner they wish.

I have yet to see anyone show a legal reason why that would not be true, in Texas or anywhere else.

If the property owner of a church, whoever that might be, decided to authorize open carry in the church I am not sure it matters what the law is.

If I tell my visitors they may openly wear handguns inside my home, or out in the yard, show me why that would be illegal.

I can't seem to find any reason why it would be. Property rights do still exist in some fashion, though they are certainly in danger.

I'm thinking about having an open carry BBQ at my house, and can't think of a single reason why any law would be violated.

Well, it was Gawker. Not exactly a bastion for right-wing causes.

If legal, I'd prefer to just keep it concealed and loaded. An unloaded weapon is a useless weapon.

I think this is a better article.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A Kentucky pastor is inviting his flock to bring guns to church to celebrate the Fourth of July and the Second Amendment.

New Bethel Church is welcoming "responsible handgun owners" to wear their firearms inside the church June 27, a Saturday. An ad says there will be a handgun raffle, patriotic music and information on gun safety.

"We're just going to celebrate the upcoming theme of the birth of our nation," said pastor Ken Pagano. "And we're not ashamed to say that there was a strong belief in God and firearms — without that this country wouldn't be here."

What's the reason for requiring the guns to be unloaded?

article said:
He said guns must be unloaded for insurance purposes and safety reasons.

OK, but if unloaded, I'd rather not carry a real gun. I'd rather pack a toy gun.

They might as well just make it "No suit jacket required church service". They may find that such a service would look exactly like an "open carry" service.

I always carry in church... concealed. My priest doesn't know. Easier to ask forgiveness than permission. If he said no, I'd have to switch churches.

Hit Piece

You DO understand that this was a hit piece, right?

Read the whole thing.

It's not a "favorable" article supporting the Second Amendment.

To this guy, carrying a gun in the open = brandishing.

He is not our friend.

Well of course it is a hit piece. But if people can believe that the Irish should eat their own babies than this one is like water off of a duck's back.

If the property owner of a church, whoever that might be, decided to authorize open carry in the church I am not sure it matters what the law is.

In Georgia, it is against the law to carry in a church. Our Republican governor, Sonny Perdue, who by the way is one of the dumbest men in Georgia, recently made a big deal over how important it was for Georgia churches to remain gun free.

A British newspaper pointed out the pastor is encouraging OPEN carry, a point lacking in other articles.

I would have said 'a UK newspaper', but that would have caused confusion.
