I can't find a clear answer to this question even after browsing several websites with GA laws. I know that as a Florida resident with my FL carry license I can carry concealed in georgia because we're reciprocal, and I've read that open carry is legal for those with a GA weapons carry permit, but does my FL license allow me to open carry in GA?

I know open carrying might fetch me some grief, but for now I'm just curious about what's technically legal.

I'd appreciate some help from anyone with some insight. Thanks.

This is not legal advice. I believe the above is incorrect. A license is required to carry, regardless of the type of carry (open vs concealed). Assuming FL is honored in GA, you can carry in GA, but you must follow GA law while doing so (part of GA law is a weapons license is required regardless of carry style).

this. ^

Ga. does not issue concealed permits, only gun (weapon) permits which are for carrying open or concealed. Fl. has reciprocity with Ga. play by Ga.'s rules while there.

good source to start with... http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/georgia.pdf

BTW, there are some changes (lessening of restrictions) which will become law in a few months... take note when your visit will be and when the changes occur.

Definitely keep this in mind. Georgia is, for the time being, more restrictive on where one can carry than Florida. NC was even worse, but a significant loosening of the strangling restrictions is set to take place later this year.

Florida Div of Licensing....

If you have a W Florida CCW license, Id check www.Mylicensesite.com .
To my knowledge, the state of FL(Div of Licensing/AG's office) says you(the W license holder) must follow & comply with the reciprocal state(laws & ordinances).
It's always best to check sites like www.Handgunlaw.us or get updated gun law guides; www.gunlawguide.com if you travel often.

Changes & modifications are common. ;)

This is true in every state (where is West Florida, by the way!?)

One is always required to follow the laws of the state in which they are, not those of the carry license's issuing state.

W.....

It's not "west" but W the Div of Licensing uses a "letter" system format for licenses; W, D, G, K, DI, R, C, MB, etc.
To me, it's not very practical but that's what the elected bigwigs in Tallahassee want & what the Florida employees are mandated to follow.

Id have endorsements on a single Florida Div of Licensing then require a license holder to get a new photo ID every 2/4/5 calendar years. Database records can add or delete the licenses(security, private investigator, security school instructor, security manager, etc).
The Florida DoL requires license holders to renew every 2 years.
Except for the W/concealed carry which is valid for 7 years.
The DoL did change the license cards & no longer posts the person's address. So a security officer or PI who loses a card won't have their home address out there for some thug to come visit. :uhoh:
note; Florida has statues that restrict retired sworn LE officers & other retirees from having "open source" records(data bases). A ticked off ex-con couldn't look up a retired police officer or special agent that way.
