Let's say a wide and sweeping interpretation of the 2nd Amendment by the SCOTUS allowed for a return to universal open carry. How would you go about it and what would you carry? Would you opt for a seperate gunbelt over yet another thing to carry on your regular belt next to the cell phone and multitool? Two guns? Speed draw?

I think a Kimber Custom TLE/RL II in a tan Galco Miami Classic would do just fine...

I'm a traditionalist. Put me down for separate gun belt/holster and a single action in .45 Long Colt. I don't carry a cell phone or pager, so nothing to get in the way.

If it was for when I am preaching or some formal event for church I wear a S&W 586(.357 MAG) in a black Threepersons holster from El Paso Saddlery with a matching belt. For every day wear ith would be the same sixgun, belt and holster, except the leather is brown with basketweave tooling.

I DO carry open at times. It's usually a SW Model 39-2 in a Galco Viper. I have also carried my Vaquero in a Classic Western Holster with extra gun belt. AZ is an open carry state.

Open carry is allowed in my state so it shouldn't make a difference to me. Once in a while I carry my 1911 Govt. open in a belt slide when in the woods or something. However, I'd still prefer to carry it concealed in town.

No SCOTUS or legislative opinions are going to change the fact that the minivan mommies are going to freak out when you carry open in a mall or supermarket, not to mention that the guy robbing the place is going to shoot you first because you are an obvious, clear threat to his get rich quick scheme.

Sometimes we like to show off our wares, but concealed carry really is the better way to go.

Honestly, I'd probably continue to conceal the vast majority of the time. But if I open carried, I'd probably just use the Safariland OWB I have for my G19.

I have been out of state for a while...but when I lived in New Mexico.....open carry was the norm. And I wore my S&W 629 Classic..5'..in a Bianchi....Cyclone..crossdraw..easier for me when in a vehicle.

Probably the same as I do now quite frequently, a simple ACE case worn on the belt, stoked with either my Kimber Ultra CDP or my G26. Difference is, I wouldn't have to be quite so sure my coat covered it.

I'd probably still carry concealed for the element of suprise. However, if open carrying, i would use my HK USP .40 "Tactical" (just you wait, work in progress)

Well one of my early 80's IPSC rigs are pretty effecient. My favorite SHTF version is a Sparks 'field holster' on his 1 3/4" belt with his 'sixpack' and a double speed mag pouch (with a matching double m-16 pouch on the back) and the ubiquitous full size 1911. Another "open carry" rig uses the pants belt to hold a Plaxo World Speed holster in an appendix position with a couple double mag pouches. I carry my 629 Mountain Revolver in a Galco "original Jackass" shoulder rig so I can drop trousers or wear hiking shorts without a belt. ;)

Open carry is allowed here in MN. I still conceal.

Besides, I wouldn't want other gunowners knowing I carry a Glock.:)

Also, if violent attackers avoid me becasue they see I have a firearm they might attack an unarmed citizen instead. Even though I was bypassed, society's cancer is still occuring. It's better when they don't know who's going to fight back. If they decide I look like food I've got the perfect cure.

Knowing when someone's carrying just moves the scenes of the crimes. It's best to just let them wonder. This 'unknowing' probably lowers the crime rates in itself.

I'd still carry concealed but for "dress occassions" would carry my stainless Colt .45 Government Model. Matches my watch. :D

Wildalaska,

Ya'll really see the need to openly pack a gun around with you on your hip all the time?

I've had to change a tire on the side of the road fewer times (2) than I've had to produce a firearm to dissuade an attacker (3), yet even though the extra weight hurts performance and gas mileage, I still find it wise to pack a tire and jack in the trunk of my car. ;)

I'd carry the same thing I usually carry now, a Glock 17 in a Sidearmor OWB holster. I'd probably carry my Birdshead Vaquero in .45 Colt on occasion as well.

Not really. I understand the advantage of concealed carry. Just a "what if" thread...

Well, in addtion to the cellphone, Streamlight TwinTask, Letherman Wave, Cold Steel Recon 1 and Cold Steel Ti-Lite (xytel) I carry now I'd probably strap on my Glock 24P (after taking off the dot scope currently on it).

I'd carry it because of it's resistance to the elements and the fact I can shoot it more accurate quickly than any other hadngun I own but my Buckmark. Plus I already have a holster for it :)

For special occasions It'd be the pre-Enhanced blued Delta Elite and I'd probably get some pretty black pearlite grips for it. I can shoot it well and bring it into action quickly and it's more powerful than the Glock so I don't feel at all inadiquate with it either.

The Glock get's it's plastic paddle holster and I'd have to do some shopping for the Delta holster but I'd probably go with a custom HBE in smooth black.

Probably would still carry concealed mostly. But during the summer, or in times when I want the gun to be noticed, it'd probably be my Redhawk, Desert Eagle, or my Vaquero depending on mood and atmosphere at the time.

In all reality if open carry was 'acceptable' it would probably be my Beretta or CZ97 most times.

not to mention that the guy robbing the place is going to shoot you first because you are an obvious, clear threat to his get rich quick scheme.

Bad guy might shop elsewhere if the majority of the store was openly carrying.

I personally would stick to the highride belt holsters as they are the most comfortable for me to carry revolvers.

My SA 1911 concealed.

No reason to make yourself a target if something goes down in a situation such as a bank/store robbery. I prefer to be the little guy with a big surprise! :D

Good Shooting
