I have a S&W model 60 that I currently carry in a SOB holster. I carry it to one side not in my SOB. It is nice and comfortable, but there are times I cannot carry it like this. I am thinking about ankle carry in these times or as a backup some days. So how comfortable are ankle holsters?

I think a lighter-weight J-frame would be better, but it's possible with the 60. I have two ankle holsters, an Alessi for, coincidentally, a Model 60, and a Renegade for my Colt Pocket Nine. The Alessi is a superbly made holster, but the metal collar for the tension strap digs into my (chunky) calf after a while. I think the Renegade is an ideal ankle rig. I can wear it practically all day without discomfort.

I think a well-made nylon rig is better to wear than leather.

I've tried ankle carry and don't like it. Who wants to bend over and pull up your pants leg when you're under attack?

Yea I am still on the fence post on Ankle Carry. Pocket carry is something I would rather do but I have the exposed hammer on my Model 60. It makes the snag factor to great to carry in my pocket.

I've ankle-carried a variety of things, having finally settled on a 442 as my ideal compromise of power vs. weight. I think a model 60 would prove a bit heavy for the ankle.

The ankle is a daft place to carry anything but your socks. Too difficult to get at if you need to in a hurry.

I carried a 60 as a BUG in an ankle holster for quite a long time. (years) It was before better holsters existed.

I now prefer pocket carry and usually advise against ankle carry. Reason: Fashion limitations, poor access (it takes an awful lot of practice to get good with an ankle holster), you expose the firearm to various dirt and weather eliments, and at times it is down right uncomfortable.

Take a look at the Hedly pocket holster I have one for RH and I am now ordering one for left hand use.
