Beautiful Pacific N.W.
Just wondering if anybody might be able to help.
I live in the beautiful Pacific N.W.Would not change it for the world.
My question is;How do I carry my Snubbie(1957 Colt AGENT) in the months that I wear shorts.
Which is actually from April to October. Thanks.
P.S. In the winter months, I always carry in a nice ankle rig.I am not fond of IWB,or SOB carry,I would rather wear a shoulder holster, than either one of these.
Let me me know of your opinions.
Finally,is there such a thing as a good THIGH Holster?

You carry it IWB, and you carry an S&W 36 or 60 sized gun. like you said. It works f'n well. Guess how I know.

If you are trying to carry a larger gun, best wishes. Why? no need to, this will take care of the need. IWB, year round.

Any chance you read my first post? Just checkin'

Yes, I did. Are you just being intentionally contrary? A Colt Agent fits the same dimensions and leather I described. Are you not familiar with firearms? You asked for opinions. People here don't read minds, and we hope others are decent and polite.

Please forgive me if I came off as impolite,
I,in no way mean to be that way.
My confusion came from the fact that I stated I do not like IWB,or SOB carry.
Simple as that! If there was a misunderstanding,I am truly sorry.

I live in Washington. When wearing warm-weather clothes I simply carry open. No drama, no discomfort. I would never wear an ankle holster for any reason.

Third vote for the pocket holster, but your old Colt might be a bit heavy for that.
Pocket carry is my most frequent method, but I carry light weight .38's.

Also not a fan of IWB, so I'd consider a quality OWB holster under a covering garment (dark oversized tee shirt or something like that). This would probably conceal better then a shoulder holster.

You are pretty much stuck with pocket carry given the immensly stringent guidelines of your first post that I took the time to read again when I saw your second post.

Maybe giving IWB another try wont be that bad if you dont like pocket carry. That or the open carry method which sounds extra easy to me. Or invent an invisible gun.

Pocket carry (a S&W 642 in a good pocket holster) works for me. I just wear tee shirts a size larger and leave 'em untucked- looks sloppy but hey, it's summer... .

First, I have to agree with the poster who said no to the ankle holster.

I know a few cops that carry a third gun that way, (that's right, a primary, and back up, and one extra just in case) but they expect to already be on the ground if they have to pull the weapon off of their ankle.

If you are carrying on the ankle as a primary you have to squat, lift your pants leg, and draw the weapon. (I guess you could lift your leg and balance on one foot???:scrutiny:) You'd most likely be dead before you could aim. If you have time to draw the thing and fire, you could most likely run away and avoid a lot of legal hassles.

Personally, I prefer IWB, but since that isn't an option in this case, I'd suggest a good fanny pack with a built in holster. I carry mine when I am wearing something that won't hide the print of my Sigma. I wear it offset in front so that it is on the right a bit. That way I can unzip and draw almost in one smooth motion. It isn't ideal, but it's better than trying to carry a pistol that big in your pocket, and it certainly beats an ankle holster - which wouldn't work with shorts anyway.

"Hold on bad guy, I have my wallet in my sock, let me just stoop down and grab it for you".......not.

As far as thigh goes, over or under the pants, or shorts? Over? I don't think Grandma Jones that lives next door to you will appreciate that very much unless you are a cop, and under the pants....well, back to you asking the bad guy to hold on a second while you reach down your pants to grab your gun.

If I saw someone with a gun strapped to their thigh and they weren't jumping out a SWAT van or had on a jacket that said Sheriff across the back in big yellow letters, I would be running the other way. Actually either way, I would probably run the opposite direction.

In the summer I wear cargo or carpenter style shorts. I can carry a 642 (14oz with wood grips) without noticing it at all, and sometimes carry a Ruger SP101 (25oz) if it fits the pocket well.

If I'm not mistaken the Agent is somewhere around 15-18oz. Sounds to me like you've got the perfect pocket gun.

Thanks to mainsail for comments. I am new to the legalities of CCW.
I could not from research determine if "open carry" was legal in Wa.The research info I found all seemed to be a bit dated.

One of the reasons I just can't give up the 642 for a bigger off duty weapons is that it fits so many forms of carry. One that I use some is boot carry I fine it stange how so many people are agains carrying a weapon in the boot or in an ankle rig but love the pockect carry, when you sitting in your car/truck how do you pull it out of your pockect? Sitting in your vehicle the weapon is very easy to get to from you boot. Last summer I was in Austin, TX for training I just left Denny's from eating supper was sitting in my unmark unit and I seen a man coming towards me with his hands behine his back my door was open so I slip my hand on my 642 which was in the boot and he seen this his eyes got kinda big he stated oh sorry I thought you was the manager and I'm looking for a job I told him the manager is inside as I have just finished talking to him and I also told the man they are looking for help he said ok turned around and walked away, not toward the Denny's I notice one of those clip knife in his back pocket not sure what was on his mind but I don't think it was a job. The point is depends on what you are doing as to the best way to carry the weapon. Now walking around the mall, the block or what ever pockect is the way to go.

be safe

Yep We Know Hot

Here in the hot humid southeast US (FL, TN), a J Frame (I like my M&P 340, it's a tad lighter) in the pocket or sometimes the Kahr PM9. When it gets really really hot, out comes the Seecamp .380 in a DeSantis Nemesis.

DeSantis has the Nemesis pocket holster for J Frames as does Robert Mika, Frontier Holsters. He has a round cut or squarecut, depending on the pockets you have. In a round pocket the square cut puts a forward cant to the grip, not a bad thing. I have only the roundcut and use it in any pocket, square may work better in a square cargo type.

If you have questions, fire off an email to Robert, he is a great guy and will typically try to get back with you despite his backlog. BTW if you can't wait for the Mika get the Nemesis, they are usually in stock and not very expensive. A PM 9 will fit in when you switch over to the Mika. Just a though.

I have heard that some prefer the Nemesis over the Superfly version. I know nothing about Superfly.

This holster is a common one, you might save a couple bucks checking a LGS, Midway, or Optics Planet.

Hope this helps.

I pull mine out just as I enter the vehicle. The gun is on the passenger seat or in the console when I'm driving. Sometimes on my seat under my thigh.

Ugh. Then you're handling the gun multiple times throughout your day. Sure, sure, nothing ever happens. Except that it does. If at all possible, the gun should go in a holster when you dress and come out of the holster when you're getting ready for bed at night. Any more messing with it is just rolling the dice over and over.

And having an unsecured chunk of inert metal flying around in your vehicle cab in the event of an accident is a big problem. Having a chunk of metal capable of also firing a bullet flying around the cab of your truck isn't better!

To each their own, of course, but holster carry for me.

IMHO.

Open carry is completely legal in Washington, and thanks to some of the people that went before you, the possibility of harassment is minimal. I routinely carry openly in Tacoma, and that’s downtown Tacoma, to restaurants, shops, coffee pushers, etc. I, and many others, do the same in Seattle and Bellevue as well. If you know what your privacy rights are under Article 1 Section 7 of the WA constitution, (similar but better than the 4th amendment to the US constitution) you shouldn’t have any problems with law enforcement.

I know you’re more interested in concealed carry but offer the information so you know what your options are. Because open carry is legal, you needn’t agonize over absolute concealment. This means you can carry concealed with an OWB holster (much more comfortable) with a light shirt over it. If it becomes inadvertently exposed, you haven’t broken any laws¹ or risked your CPL. It also means that if you are wearing a coat to conceal your sidearm (in your more comfortable OWB holster) and you enter a restaurant, shop, or coffee pusher, you can remove your coat and wear your sidearm openly while you’re there. Open carry is MUCH more than just carrying openly, it’s a toolbox full of options for carrying.

¹Caveat: If you expose your sidearm either intentionally or inadvertently at such a moment that someone could reasonably interpret it as a threat to intimidate, you have broken the law. Example: You’re in a dispute with a waitress over some additional drinks added to your bill (a common Hooters tactic) and brush your shirt or coat aside to display your firearm, you will get a free stay at the Graybar Hotel. In other words, you need to behave yourself, which is good advice any time you carry concealed anyway.

Thanks to all here for the input. All of you that suggest OWB Holster are correct!!!!! I got a new Safariland for my old Colt agent,& to my surprise, not only did it conceal much better than I would have thought, nice high ride,& is quite comfortable to boot. Thanks.
*****a special Thanks to Mainsail for his LOCAL help.
