Sometimes otherwise really good guns just don't fit my hand and I can't use them. Not won't or prefer not to but just won't work for me.

For me, the mini Glocks are those guns. The 17 is fine, the 19 is marginal, but the 26 and 43 just do not fit my hand. Period. Too uncomfortable to bother trying to shoot. I can and have handled small frame Glock-like 9mm's that I can manage to wrangle without hurting myself, mostly - the Star M43 Firestar is a gem! - but the 26 bites my hand HARD at the web of the thumb where that faux-beaver-tail hook dips down; and the 43 is as bad if not worse.

So which quality, well-respected 9's just don't fit your hand, even though they "should"?

Agree on the mini Glocks, the hump just hits my palm in a real annoying way. Compact Glocks with finger grooves don't feel great to me either.

If shooting is involved, the BHP gets the nod due to the constant hammer bite mine gave me.

I also didn't care for how my DW Valkyrie CCO felt in the hand, corners of the grip dig in my palm.

All that said, even feeling not so great I shoot the Glocks and DW great, so comfort doesn't always equate performance.

Same went with the Beretta APX. Feels wonderful in my hand but I couldn't shoot the one I had nearly so well as it felt.

Now see, the 26/27/33/39 all fit my hand the best. LOL But with you all on the G43/42 grip. I don’t like them, but the G42 is my EDC just because I haven’t found a pair of 911s in 380 yet. So I trudge on.

I have to give the worste and most uncomfortable grip to the Ruger Security 9, SCCY, LCPII, LC9/EC9 , and Max 9. Sad cause the American and SR Series fit my hand great.

Lefty

I had a Glock 26. It didn’t fit me but I made it work.
I had a Glock 19 Gen 3. Hated the finger grooves.
I love my G45 and my two G34 Gen 3s. They fit me.

The two guns that really surprised me that fit my hands just fine until I shot them were the Browning Hi-Power due to hammer bite and the CZ-75 due to funky controls.

I handled a Beretta 92FS and it’s Inox brother recently. I like the way they felt but I will reserve judgement until I can shoot one.

Glocks, especially double stacks.

In some universe there's an a humanoid alien with pincers that grip fits. . . in my hand everything but the trigger is annoyingly misfit.

Yes, I have one, and yes I can shoot it.

I can do the G43. I could do the original LC9. I could even do the Kel-Tec P11.

But I couldn't do the Taurus 9 Slim. It put my finger at a very awkward angle.

I have very large hands, so the uncomfortable ones for me are the small ones.

I don't recall a full-sized 9mm service pistol that felt terribly awkward to me.

Weird double ... :scrutiny:

... WHOA! Then the 2nd one, the one that I left as posted, disappeared.

Strange things.

================

Original post, as best I can remember:

The "pineapple-grenade" grip-treatment of the original Springfield Armory XDs garnered few fans.
When I first saw the XDm 4.5 I thought it would be the most uncomfortable pistol I ever held. I actually refused to grip it. Once I got a paw on it I changed my mind. Remarkable but it fit. Felt good, too. I bought it on a whim and because it was cheap - under $300 for the full kit, all there and complete with six magazines - figuring I’d shoot it, hate it, hold it and flip it for a decent profit. Nope. Shoots great. I even reload for it now. Strange how looks and fit can go, isn’t it?

I think my most uncomfortable 9 is a sccy cpx2. The plastic grip has no give and being very light it has a snap that isn't comfortable. Usable yes, but overall least favorite. I suppose a grip sleeve would help but I have no desire to spend on improving it over something nicer like a cheap Turk 1911.

There are a few for me...

The Glock finger grooves are almost exactly out of phase for my hands. However, the Hogue rubber grips for the Beretta 92 and the Ruger P-series fit like a glove.

The P2000SK and CS9 have grip length that don't work with either the flush baseplate or the finger rest baseplate. However, the 3913/14 grip is perfect with a finger rest mag.

The "classic" N-frame target grips from the 70's and 80's feel like holding a 2"x2". However, service "Magnas" and Pachmayr Presentation (size small) work well.

I really don't like the feel of a full sized Glock grip at all, but I do shoot them pretty well. Shot a Glock 42 last week for the first time and absolutely loved it. Always wanted a Springfield Armory XDs in 45 auto, but just didn't like the feel of the grip at all when I checked them out. Later got a chance to shoot one and hated it.

I guess my hands are a little larger than average. With the exception of my HK's most which have 20 some grip combinations, the other pistols receive Hogue Handall grip sleeves or aftermarket grips. I go as long as possible without any addition but it seems ultimately I end up with a different grip. I guess I like the texture and feel of the Hogue products as I use them on my revolvers too.

Perhaps it feels better on the larger XDm grip?

It is on my Love It or Hate It list as from the comments that I have seen over the years, almost everyone seems to come down clearly on one side or t'other.

There are, at least, a few, though, who either cannot decide or simply find the grip-treatment to be unremarkable. I count myself as a belonging in the first group. :)

Does .357 count because I can't get a good grip on medium and large frame revolvers. Just feels wrong. Of course all Glocks as well.

I’ve always wanted one, but have never seen one in the wild.

Sounds like I’m not missing much.

I put some $ down for A P88when the dealer said it would be a collectible in the day. It was chunky. In the end I didn't complete the transaction because the magazines were $ and difficult to get. Total price was just a shade under $1K. In terms of build it was very nice. Instead I wish I did buy a Sig 225 or 228. Missed that boat too. :(

Never cared much for the Glock 17 and 26, either too big or else too small and feel awkward when I hold them. Same with their finger groove models. Just doesn't fit my small hand at all. Also I don't like the Bobtail style mainspring housing as it hits the palm of my hand and it's rather uncomfortable. The Beretta 92 series is too big and wide and it's difficult for me to reach the trigger; the only version that works somewhat is the Vertec with it's flat backstrap.

All glocks except for the single stacks. I have odd bone structure in my thumb due to some extracurricular activities in school. That causes some strange friction with the little divot on the upper grip area of the Glock pistols, and that little divot has a somewhat sharp and raised edge that rips my knuckle open within the first couple mags. My wife’s g42 however is a joy to shoot.
