I use Moultrie I-40s (3) and I-60 (1) and really can't tell there is that much benefit from the more expensive I-60 that has a tiny viewer window (not good for daytime viewing, but dawn or dusk is okay) and higher res files aren't that much better, not enough to make a significant difference.
Yes, the IR shots are not as clear as white light flashes. Then again, they don't seem to startle the animals as much either.
Round here, seems the deer aren't concerned with a standard flash. Theory is, they're so used to seeing headlights flash through the trees at night that they just ignore it. The IR, however, gets them interested and sometimes spooked. IIRC, they can see IR, and it's not as common. They don't always seem to be spooked, though, I tend to just see pictures of them staring right at the camera on IR images. The 35mm type cameras always seem to spook em, though. The sound of the film winder tends to be the culprit.
I have news for you. I can see the IR as well. You see, the LEDs will glow a dim orange and that is what produces the IR. It is normal, visible light. The deer stare at the camera partially because of the glow, but partially because many cameras will make some noise. The Moultries will move an IR filter in place for the image to be taken, for example. This makes a small noise, but not such that the deer are bothered by it, or the coons, or anything else.

The running bucks is one of my new favorite images. I have no idea what startled them or was chasing them as the next two pics in the sequence were simply of the field.
The 2nd image is a strange beam of light image that one cam caught. I had the cam set up to take three shots at a time (which are spaced about 15 seconds apart) at intervals of no less than 1 minute when movement is sensed. The beam showed on in one sequence of 3 with no other images taken for several hours before or after. It is just one of those cool, freaky pics.
I have a little water hole that gets attention from a variety of animals including the occasional hawk and Mr. Hog. He has found a muddy spot above my water hole in which to make a wallow. I don't like Mr. Hog.
