Which gun and manufacture put out the best out-of-the-box quality? Price is not a deciding factor but... I got a Kimber .45 last year and still remain impressed.

I've only returned one customers Glock to the factory for warranty work in seven years.

I return at least 3-4 Kimber's a year. They seem to go back far more often than 1911's made by Smith, Ruger, Sig or Springfield.
Taurus.......about one a month.:barf:

Best? Glock, Sig, Colt, Ruger

Oddly the only guns I have purchased new and had a problem with? S&W. Piece of junk Bodyguard .380 (fully money back) and Strangely inaccurate 617 22LR revolver with absolutely terrible trigger. I have fixed the trigger, still just not very accurate.

This topic came up on another forum, and in the "duty size" pistol category, most seemed to think Beretta and HK were the most consistently good. You may prefer the features of another maker, but those two companies have consistently executed their designs well.

Having said that, in general, almost all of the major makers are very good, and we do live in a great era for fine firearms. Even if you had a problem, virtually all companies will probably fix whatever problem you may have.

From a problem standpoint Glock has had some troubles with their pre-Gen 4 .40 S&W guns, which brought about the Gen 4 guns. While the Gen 4 redo pretty much fixed the .40 S&W guns, it caused problems with their 9mm versions.

SIG has had some problems with their quality control over the past several years, and they've spent some time hunting for the correct size extractor on a few models, and while the P320 has been met with enthusiasm, the response to the P250 has been just the opposite.

S&W has had accuracy issues with their 9mm M&P line. FN keeps coming up with a different third letter for their guns seemingly every year. Is it FNP, FNS, FNX, FNG. I don't know what letter they're on right now. I need a program.

In spite of all that, you could probably pick any handgun and expect it to work properly and if it didn't most companies will fix it for you at no charge.

I've had several great guns. Most have yet to fail me. Without hesitation, I will say that my Sig P239 has had the most rounds through it and has had zero failures. Likely 4-5k rounds. Others of note....CZ PCR, Walther p99AS, Walther PPS, Beretta M9, and Beretta 84F.....all with zero malfunctions, but not as many rounds down range.

With demand making a strain on deliveries...S&W ..Ruger...and a few others are having QC issues tying to get product out the door....as of late...seems CZ is hanging in there...my CZ 527s and 452s are flawless....

For me it's got to be one of my Glocks or S&W revolvers. I do have a Colt Series 80 that has been rock solid. I would trust my life with it.

Best-Out-of-the-Box performance: in my experience present day Colt, Browning, Beretta, SIG, Ruger, CZ, Glock, and H&K guns.

Guns are tools made by humans with all the inherent flaws that entails. Nothing magical about them.

I would have to count out anything with a break-in period. Especially when we're talking about a pistol that humans have been making for over a century and that commands a bit of a premium, I'd have an expectation for function out of the box.

I also wouldn't say Glocks; the sights suck, and I've had two Gen 4s where the first pull of the trigger resulted in an FTE–with no other problems in thousands of subsequent rounds. Plus they had the BTF feature, which is annoying but not deal breaking.

For quality I haven't seen anything that beats an SV (sviguns.com). Expect your pocket to be $3000+ lighter and a year or better wait.

Out of the box who is best? How deep are your pockets applies? As for myself I've been satisfied with Glock and the S&W MP series pistols. That's to say my pockets aren't that deep.

I find it interesting that if you go to any brand specific forum, you will find tons of complaints from owners on literally any firearm brand mentioned so far. No manufacturer is perfect and their buyers don't hold back complaining on the internet.

As a RSO, I see a lot of customers walk in the door fresh out of their LGS or big box store and straight into our range expecting everything to work correctly without so much as a quick wipedown or drop of oil on their new treasure.

Glocks, Sigs, and revolvers seem to fair the best with this practice, Les Baer 1911's not so much.

If you are impressed with Kimber I think you'll be happy with anything.

I don't know...maybe HK, Glock, S&W revolvers, Colt, ?

My first 1911 is a Kimber and it doesn't run very well. Not a judgement against Kimber. A sampling of one gun is not fair to any manufacturer.

I bought a Colt govt this summer and couldn't ask for a more reliable and accurate gun.

Ive had springfields and glocks which have never been sent back for any reason.
Also had a s&w sigma which I hated but it was shot an un godly number of times by friends and family and that never had any issue. If I had to pick one it would probably be glock. As said earlier, they just plum work.

I just got a new Colt Lightweight Commander 9mm in stainless. I'm really impressed with the fit and finish.
Upon disassembly, I didn't find any metal chips or any tooling marks at all.

This is the way it's suppose to be. I have other Colts as well but bought them used.

I have had many Colts and Brownings and all are good to go out of the box with very few problems ever.

Colt Government 1911s out of the box can be pushed hard. Had a catastrophic failure SIG 220 SAO w/i 500 rounds practice ammo several years ago, split frame. Also, sheared off the rear sight on a G17 during a boot rack drill.

Lots of good choices for reliability; however, there's a wide variance between triggers and ergonomics. ....and some magazines are insanely expensive. :)

your semi-custom or full custom builders.. Production guns need not apply.
