Out of your loaded guns at home, what is the most serious?

These two are my first responders

The Colt CCO is my primary CCW and I have that IWB most of the time. I'd be answering the door with it. I also answer the telephone with it :D and work on the car with it, do the laundry with it, walk the dog with it, etc.

If something is going down and I need to hunker down, call 911 and defend the homestead, the Mossberg will be in my lap also.

If I need to answer the door or investigate a bump at oh dark thirty, it will likely be my Surefire G2 in my left hand and my S&W Model 28 in my right hand since those are close by the bed. With a six inch barrel and a cylinder full of .357 HP, the big N frame is also plenty serious if it needs to be.

Glock 19 unchambered.

And don't be calling me a girly boy for this one. I did a lot of research and found that the .20 gauge shotgun is best for home defense, so I have a Win 1300 Defender loaded with #3 shot magnums. They used to call it the "Lady Defender", now they just call it the 1300 Defender in .20 gauge. It is kept unchambered with the pump locked and on safety.

Tell you what, Albanian. I'd rather look like a jack-a$$...

I can't imagine answering the door with a shotgun or an assult rifle. I do have those guns but for just checking out noises or answering the door, I think they are overkill. You end up looking and feeling like a jack-a$$ when you answer the door with an assult rifle and it is someone you know and they see it. Also, because you need to keep it behind the door, it is useless if someone suddenly kicks it in. All of a sudden, you are defensless! With a handgun, you tend to have it when you need it.

After an attempted home invasion robbery at my home in Citrus Heights a few years ago, 8 rounds of 3" Magnum 000 Buckshot proved their worth to me. Enough so the second attempt a year or so later ended rather quickly, too. Ever since then, my little friend pictured below has been next to the nightstand both night and day. See the stick-figure diagram on how to open a door while holding a longarm? It becomes second nature after a while.

BTW, what's an assault rifle, and where can I buy one?

I also had a home invasion and it changed the way I treat the home defense question. I was lucky that I heard, then saw the BG through the peephole acting wierd in the hallway outside my apt door. I went to the BR and got the 44 spl revolver from the night stand and was walking out of the BR when the door was busted in. The wierdo was almost on top of me when I got the revolver out of the zippered case. He sure ran the other way when he saw what I had for him! If I hadn't heard him he would have been between me and the BR when he broke in.

Now, Kahr MK40 40 cal loaded with 155 gr Gold Dot HP's in the front pocket unless I have the Para Ordnance 45 ACP in an IWB holster. I carry even when at home. The 44 spl is concealed near the front door (no children at home). In the BR I have a 6-inch bbl 44 mag loaded with 270 gr Speer Gold Dot flat points and I also have a Mossy 12 ga loaded with tactical #4 buck and then in the shell holder half slugs and half 3" mag 00 buck. The spousal unit has a 357 snubby and pepper spray. And can't leave out the two large dogs.

No overpenetration concerns since we now live in the mountains with lots of trees and rocks between us and the neighbors. With spring-time bears coming out of hibernation I may switch the 12 ga to slugs or I may bring the 444 Marlin out of the safe and load up with handloads - 250 gr Nosler HP Partitions.

The most serious is the one that I am closest to!

On the side of my bed a 12 gauge coach gun with functional hammers and #4 buck. Holster by my bed 44 special with 165 grain Cor Bons. Around the house usually the 44 special is with me. My wife for some reason likes her Colt Mustang in 380. I've been trying for years to get her to move up in calibur but no luck so far. She is a darn good shot with it though.

I would never do this with a 1911 (don't want to refinish THAT often)... the Glock can take the abuse and is hardly the worse for the wear.

So you popped off 8 rounds of 3" Magnum 000 Buckshot and didn't hit anything?:uhoh: A year later they came back and tried again?:uhoh:

I think you need more bullets. :neener:

Albanian, not exactly.

So you popped off 8 rounds of 3" Magnum 000 Buckshot and didn't hit anything? A year later they came back and tried again?

The sight and sound of the 870Mk1, and me screaming certain unpleasant things, caused a change in their attitudes. They couldn't get through the front door, so were trying to kick through the big living room window. I stepped from behind the front door and leveled off at the guy struggling to kick in that plexiglass window (they flex but don't break). They high-tailed it down Greenback Lane towards Sayonara, from whence they probably came. (Gawd, if ever there was a need for a MOAB release over a certain part of the US...)

After filling out the police report, I learned that my address was somewhat popular with the Sacramento County Sheriffs Department. I cornered my landlord, who admitted the previous occupants had a pretty good drug business operating out of the house. (Which explained the cheap rent, plexiglass window, new drywall and paint, and new door hinges everywhere) My late-night "guests" were members of the earlier occupants' clientel.

The next episode was probably more of the same clientel, who again, didn't know their suppliers were no longer living there. We figured the fact that the lawn was now nicely manicured and green, with a couple nice cars out front, was a green flag for them to initiate business again. We moved shortly after that, enough was enough. :(

As an aside to those who dispute the need for the 2nd Amendment, my wife and I were safe, yet didn't have to actually shoot anybody in the process. That speaks volumes.

They're serious,3" 24-3 loaded with 200gr gold dots,3" 65-3 loaded with 150gr starfires.A rem 870 loaded with fed 0 buck comes out at night.

If you have more than one loaded gun at home, do you have one that if things looked bad yo would grab?
If I have to reach for a gun, THINGS LOOK BAD!
What I mean is, do you have different guns for different levels of threat?
No.

I have several V-Line lockboxes bolted down and hidden out of plain sight in just about every room in the house. I grab whatever gun I can reach the quickest -- I feel equally well armed with twelve rounds of .40S&W or sixteen rounds of 9mm ...

That's a cool picture Alan Fud!

Even here among many AK and AR owners, it's interesting to see a lot of folks still rely on the trusty 12 or 20ga shotgun when things get serious.

I never use a mouse gun for a house gun.

Of the various loaded weapons in my reach while in my home ALL of them are serious. Almost as serious as my attutude.

I feel completely confident that I have the means available to handle any threat that might present itself.

I keep two handguns loaded with 115 and 155gr gold dots, and would likely grab one of those. A roommate keeps a 20ga loaded.

If I look outside and see taliban troops invading or some such:rolleyes:, I've got my VEPR K leaning against the wall in the closet with a loaded mag in it, and a couple more on the shelf. However, overpenetration is a big concern for me, as well as the effects of the vepr's sizeable breaked muzzle blast, so its handguns for me... except in the most unlikely of scenarios.

I most CERTAINY do not EVER feel like an a$$ EVER, for having pro-actively taken action twards my own defense... and my friends (the ones who are ACTUAL friends) would NOT think poorly of me for answering a door W/ a stainless shorty shotgun...

MOST of my friends not only expect it, but commend me FOR it... and anyone who isn't a friend and catches a glimpse of the gun, knows not screw around at MY door after that...

If protecting myself meant open carrying a bright magenta hi-point in a tactical spotted yellow thigh holster, call me funny lookin', but I'll be safe in my fashionable polka-dot POS...

Kimber 1911, 7 in the mag, 1 in the pipe, plus three other mags loaded up and handy. When I am at home it seems to follow me around the house.

I had a an occurrence back in December, that has since caused me to rethink this scenario. I live on a dead-end street & for the most part traffic on the street tends to be residents or visitors of residents. About 4:30am, mid December I was startled awake by a sound & shudder in my home. Upon awakening I was unsure of what I had heard & exactly what had happened. I then noticed a light outside my bedroom window. I switched on a light in my living room & the light surged. This was soon followed by a firm knock at the door. Being caught off guard, I grabbed what I could conceal the easiest, a Kel-Tec P32 loaded with Silvertips. When I tried to turn the porch light on, the light would not come on. I live in a split entry home, so I was able to slightly open my living room window from an elevated position to try to ascertain who was there. At that point my “paperboy†(man actually approximately 50ish) announced himself & stated that he had swerved to miss a deer and had taken out the telephone pole next to my bedroom (we won’t go into how fast he must have been traveling to completely take out the pole approximately 25 yards from my paper box). Along with the pole, he took out my entrance (power line) that had previously been attached to my home (that was the shudder). Once I knew who it was, I allowed him in to use the phone. I was able to slip the Kel-Tec into my shirt pocket & he was none the wiser. Afterward, I had time to reconsider my actions, & I’m sure I could have been better prepared. One thing I know for sure is, that if it had been a serious threat I would have felt slightly more comforted by another more “assuming†firearm. Maybe a 12 gauge or AK. That said though, I agree that a concealable handgun is probably the simplest means for handling such situations. I think if I had it to do over again, I’d have my Glock or 357 & Surefire light, with the wife backing me up from a concealed position with the 12 gauge. Better safe than sorry.

LW Commander and/or Mossberg 500 whichever I get to first.

In the case of a protracted firefight, Yugo SKS.

The bad guys have already been ran off once with the Shotgun. The Police were very helpful. They are underfunded and seem to appreciate all the help they can get. They caught all five BG and sent three back to prison. Thing have been very quiet since then.

The town I live in has a pretty low crime rate, so I don't feel it's necessary to have a loaded weapon close at hand. I do keep a Beretta 92 9mm in another room in "condition 3", if the need should arise.
I used to live in a remote rural area where criminal activity was more commonplace. Back then, I kept a loaded Marlin .44 mag carbine under the bed.

I keep my STI Edge with 20+1 rounds of .40 S&W on the nightstand. Another mag is always close by.

I'm confident I can shoot this gun fast and accurately. It's a lot of gun for close quarters.

It's my main dry fire gun. Practice makes perfect and I have no problem with stacking the deck with my "race gun".
