Like the title said, it's been a long time since I bought a brand spanking new handgun. Given Colt's current financial issues, I figured now was a good time. I ordered a new National Match.

I pretty much felt the same way recently and bought a new Combat Commander.

Been several years since I've bought a new one too.
And in the mean time, sold my combat commander.:(

Aww, the guy I sold it to is the guy I bought it from several years earlier, and he really, really wanted it back.
And I like the heck out of him, so.. well.. good friends are more important than any gun.

I don't think Colt is going anywhere, but anytime you have an excuse to buy another gun is a good day! I was in one of my LGS's recently, and they had a mew, blued GCNM in the case. They are still beautiful, and if I didn't have my share of Colts, I would have grabbed it.

It's been a year for me... but the last on I bought was a new COLT Gunsite Model.

For 2015 I plan to buy the new Series 70 Gold Cup NM or maybe one of the 9mm XSE models... depending on which I see first and street price.

My last brand new handgun was the 9" single six shortly after they discontinued them. Found one on a shelf and brought it home. Been a while tho.

I have a hard time going 6 months before wheeling, dealing, and aquiring a new assett.

I have bought a lot of guns in the past 5 years, just not current production brand new handguns...I have bought a lot of unfired NIB handguns that have been previously owned.

Five years since your last one?
Only five years?
I have a lot of ammo older than that.
If it was up to guys like me, the gun stores would go out of business.
My wife of 45 years says doing it right the first time is good.
Not that it applies to her stuff, though.
Enjoy your new NM.

What took so long? I got into firearms back in 2009 and bought PLENTY of guns.

Maybe you already have an arsenal.

Frankly (and I'm sure this is no surprise to regular readers) I haven't and most likely won't run out to buy anything new (including Colt's) because of the extensive supply of like-new guns produced in the past, that are available.

As an example, J&G Sales has recently advertised a group of S&W .38 Combat Masterpieces (model 15 blued or 67 stainless). Some at least have pined barrels, and walnut stocks, so it's likely they were made before or during 1982 before the most serious cost-cutting changes occurred.

They are priced well below what a new similar revolver would cost, including one in the special issue Classic collection.

Why then, to I have any incentive to buy a new/current one?

Actually, I scoured the gun shows and traders for a used National Match at a lesser than new price for the past 6 months. Never found one.

Copy that CPE,

The Kel-Tec P-32 (standard version, NOT the National Match one;))
I bought was the first new firearm I've bought since the P-99 Walther first came out!

I picked up quite a few new Colts (4 to be exact), several years ago as I felt they were building a decent product at the time and well, I just like having Colts.

It's been 2 years since I bought a gun of any type. I've had to move twice in the past 2 years plus get my house fixed up to rent it out. So I've been pressed for cash. I was buying 4-5 guns a year for a few years. Hopefully things will stablize someday soon and I can start buying again.

All turned out good. I have put about 200 rounds thru it without a misfeed. It shot this group at 15 yards offhand.

Didn't know they were bringing the GCNM back in a 70's.....I wonder what the MSRP will be. I will bet it will be considerably higher than the current 80's. I will also bet it will take a while to get one.....I am glad to see they brought back the flat top....If the price is close to the 80's, I will own one.

I just looked....Looks like MSRP is $1250. About the same as an 80's. They are MSRP $1217. I paid $985.
