P08 1916 9mm (Thoughts)

Dang, I haven't seen one of these in a shop for years! How many mags with it? Shop confirms that it'll still shoot safely (def not a collector piece)?

Very intriguing.

1 mag, they don’t guarantee guns pass a certain manufacturing date. You know this shop, if you’re interested.

I would be interested if I didn’t already buy a Artillery 9mm and a 30 Mauser from them

My LGS has an old Luger with the grip safety (Swiss?) they have had for literally years. Started at $2900, right now its at $1600. If it were in 9mm I'd already own it, but its in .30 luger.
I bought a commercial luger a few years ago for $800, but when I was picking it up I noticed it had been wrongly advertised as a 9mm but was a .30, so I returned it for a refund. Probably should have kept it, I doubt I'll see another luger of any flavor for that price again. Oh well, I didn't need another obscure cartridge in the collection then, and I still don't.

Mark, if it functions fine its not a bad price, from what I've been seeing of Lugers these days. Not a bargain and the finish is pretty rough, but fair.
If the bore is good I'd probably buy it. They are printing dollar bills like its going out of style, but they aren't making any more lugers.
Edit: looks like you already have a few, maybe that itch is scratched.

Agreed, its a fair price with a good bore, but not a steal.
Bore is good! it’s been there for a few. Mabey I should try my negotiations skills

Like: bro, this has been here for a bit, what about $1525? Mags are not matching

-Mark, I priced it according

bro, tell you what, I’m willing to do $1525, let mw know if that works for you

I have a Swiss Luger like that and in .30 Luger of course and it is by far more accurate and trouble free than any I ever owned. It shoots crazy little dinky 2" groups at 50 yards rested when My eyes were good with my cast bullet hand loads. I don't really shoot it much anymore . I do shoot the heck out of my 1920 British proofed "commercial " DMW 3 7/8" rebarrel . Hey if you use the GREAT and relatively inexpensive and available Mecgar Magazines it makes Lugers work better than new if everything else is good. They work for .30 or 9mm .

The side plate looks like it has been replaced and it is missing the take down spring. As others have mentioned, the price is ok, but its not a bargain given the condition and date. Did you happen to notice the serial number suffix?

My only gripe with the Mecgars is the dinky black plastic bottom plug. I have one that I knocked out the pins and replaced it with a wooden one, lol.
But ya, they feed great.

Lugers are a rabbit hole of an entirely different sort. A late buddy green-lighted the one I have, numbers matching save for the magazine. (The extractor was worn; replaced it, but held the original)
Saw one at a gunshow last weekend; it had a clear left hand grip ( perspex?) done in the fashion often seen with GI 1911s. There was a demure young lady's picture, preserved under the glass, and the grip was beautifully fitted. They wanted $1,500, and it almost made me cry. What happened to both the GI and his sweetheart? If only the damned things could talk....

They were called "Sweetheart" grips, often made from discarded aircraft canopies. Never seen one on a Luger, neato.
