Here!
Would someone that has or had both pistols tell me if the magazine release been changed ? Looked at another P95 today and I just can't
warm up to how easy it is to drop the mag. Had two, sold two, same reason. Yep,both shot great. Is the P97 more secure in magazine retention ?

Thanks,

John

I don't have either. But I was doing some searches on P97's last night, and it was mentioned that their mag release was just fine; specifically, it did not have the problems that the P95 did.

I don't know if the P95 has been changed, but one poster said Ruger instructed him on what to do to make the P95's release more like P97's. He said it was an easy mod to make and that Ruger even sent him a couple extras in case he screwed one up.

I just bought a p97 last week and I very much like the mag release its not as easy to push as some guns but isnt as hard as some..It just perfect.Im pretty new to handguns but I could try to help with this model as good as i can

Hmmm. We must have a good un then. Our 95 doesn't seem to have a mag release problem. We don't have a 97 for comparison purposes, but we do have others to compare it against and it's no worse than them. I never knew there was an issue with mag release.

I will post some pics after i eat dinner..Should be half an hour or so..assuming Knowbody else does and i will post in the other thread.

I think the P97 mag release to be the more conventional push "in" rather than "push forward" (P95) style.

I'm with ARperson. I've had my 95 for about 4 years now and haven't noticed any issues. Can anyone be a little more specific as to what the "problems" are?

Thanks,

...Dave

I've had three P95s. One would drop factory mags out of the gun after every shot. The magazine release spring was so weak it would drop the mag under recoil. It got returned to the dealer and it did it for him too.

The other two P95s I had would inadvertently relase the mag if it got bumped when I carried it in an IWB holster. This turned it in to a single shot pistol. Not good.

Ruger P series autos (except the .45) have magazine release levers that stick out of the gun like row boat oars. For some reason on the P95, they seem to take far less pressure to relase the mag. My P89 and P94 take considerably more pressure to release the mags and I have never had that problem with them. I have notice that on every P95 I ever handled, it took very little effort to release the magazine. Too little in my opinion.

Interesting. I've never noticed it. I haven't carried the P95 in quite a while. It's mainly my range plinker now. I'll pay more attention at the mag releases and see if it is any looser than normal.

A question for those that have both the P95 and 97. Could this be a reason why the P97 does not have a dual mag release? I've read on rugers web site a while back ago that they make an ambi P97 but I've yet to see one in person. Just currious
