I'm comparing some options with Vickers slings for a rifle. I'm wondering if there is any reason not to get the padded version. I could possibly see the padded one being slightly harder to maneuver or manipulate, but I'm just blindly guessing. Anyone use both for a day of shooting or a class and find differences?

I generally prefer padded slings. Moving long hikes/hours, any rifle will get heavy, and I do carry a lot of heavy rifles, which start heavy, and carry heavy even on short work.

I've got both..for an AR15 carbine I prefer the non-padded.

I've spent entire days on a the range wearing a standard weight M4 during carbine classes with the standard sling and not been uncomfortable. The one padded BFG sling I have is on an FAL and with that weight it works well.

I favor the non-padded Vickers sling. I left active duty in '05, and I'd carried an M4 with a non-padded sling for pretty much up to 60 or 70 hours straight... and in my other life, never used a padded sling for hunting (probably max 8 or 10 hours humping a full-sized rifle with frequent breaks or sitting in stands). Frankly, since I've never been in the Foreign Legion and had to march for days across the sands of Northern Africa, I've not yet felt the need for a padded sling.

I guess the caveat here would be that I've never worn/carried a super-heavy long gun for unbearably lengthy periods, but one assumes everyone's tolerance levels may vary widely.

Wonder how much in royalties Larry gets for every one of his slings sold?

Echo what others have said. M4 types like the least bulk over gear. If it's T-shirts, maybe the padded. Seems like the padded was geared towards the 240 or 249. 2 cents worth.

There's less than one ounce difference in the weight. Not a chance in _ _ _ _ you can feel that extra weight. Having tested both, I find the padded one more comfortable on MY shoulder. I haven't tested them on anyone else's shoulder. ;)
