Pakistani surplus Garand ammo

I have no personal experience, but a quick search reveals its not very highly thought of, like a lot of Pakistani ammo appearently

Not in my M1. Non reloadable brass kills it for me, you might not reload but you sure can collect the brass and sell to reloaders, but not with this.
You can buy new Prvi M1 ammo for about the same price per round and have good reloadable brass afterwards.

The POF 9mmP that I got was wildly variable in velocity. Some would run the Uzi hard, and some barely cleared the barrel and caused short stroking.

I'd pass. At a minimum wear good ANSI rated goggles.

Run it in the most specific pressure range service rifle ever mass produced?

Pakistani? Not freakin' likely.

I wouldn't have run that junk through when Garands were $185 a piece let alone $1,850.

Pity all the poor schlubs who'll be "inheriting" Garands from tight-wad POs who have used this stuff.

Todd.

It is crap. Makes no sense to use that in an expensive piece of history like the Garand.

I shoot POF 7.62x51 with my FAL, M14, Vepr and bolt guns. Not much difference from South Africa surplus. No problem here. Actually pretty happy since I bought them .25/rnd.

How would this stuff run in a 03A3 or 1917 ?

I bought a bunch of the Korean stuff when Wideners had it in stock but it won't last forever.

Ancient ammo from a 3rd world country. It's all sorts of bad ideas. There's a huge difference between old ammo from a developed country and crapholes like Pakistan.

Did Pakistan ever use a 30-06 rifle? I'd think they went straight from .303 SMLEs to 7.62x51 without passing the Garand, so I'd question the surplus angle.

Also wouldn't use it in something as nice (and ammo finicky) as an M1 unless you've got spare op rods handy.

As a rule, I don't use milsurp that comes from a country where I wouldn't drink the water.

(I might bend the rule a bit and use Russian or Chinese ammo in a Mosin, SKS, or AK-pattern rifle.)

At the moment, Cheaper Than Dirt has Greek .30/06 milsurp at competitive prices. I'm pretty sure it's HXP, the same stuff the CMP sold for years. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/Search.aspx?site=All Products&num=15&q=greek&fgb=t

Unless you have an M1 that ammo will not shoot very accurately. I tried to shoot garrand ammo in my BAR, it functioned well but it is about as accurate as milsurp 7.62x54r ammo.

Greek surplus ammo may be accurate but it is watered down. PPU 150gr 7.62x54 soft point has a velocity of 2,880 fps. PPU 150gr SP 30/06 ammo has a velocity of right at 2,960 fps. Sellier and Bellot 180gr ammo is very accurate and it has a velocity of over 2,800 fps. S&B slams deer and I am sure it would be just as effective on elk and moose at ranges up to 300 yards.

J&G says the Pakistan ammo is berdan primed brass case. I would rather pay a little more for S&B brass. S&B brass is a step above PPU brass. The Paki brass looks like it has already been annealed.

Nope, I spent time in Trashcanistan and when you realize that Pakistan is just a short drive away in a jingle truck, it would be wise to pass on anything made in that part of the world unless it's a rug!!!:fire:

Midway states it was " Rare 30-06 Ammo" "Discovered in a British armory". lol

Probably true, the Republic of Pakistan would have inherited a number of armories from the British Raj. The ammo wasn't put there by the Brits though. As the CIA was allegedly a mover and shaker in Pakistan for years they could also have claimed it was 'sanitized ammo from CIA black ops stockpiles'.
My experience with POF .303 is it is very erratic, hang fires and is inaccurate. Stinks too. No way would I use any product of theirs in any rifle of mine.
