Palmetto State Armory AR's

If you start with an AR pistol, either factory or home built, with a brace on it, there's no restriction on putting a rifle upper on it...
A pistol may configured as a rifle (minimum barrel and overall length requirements met), then returned to a pistol configuration as long as during the process it's never in a prohibited configuration. When it's configured as a rifle, vertical foregrips are allowed.

If, while in its pistol configuration (even if the barrel length is less than 16 inches), the overall length is 26 inches or more, it is legal to install a vertical foregrip. However, in this configuration, it is prohibited to carry it concealed.

I've been pretty impressed with the fit and finish and function of mine. It has functioned as it should. No complaints really. I don't think there is a really big difference between the PSA's and various other middle of the road AR's.

If I was going on missions and had to stake my life on a rifle every day I would probably opt for a bcm or rra or similar but I trust it for what I do with it and I also trust that if I ever need it to defend life and limb it will function like it always has. Totally adequate but nothing special.

I like that they make them at different price points too, I was thinking of buying one of their really cheap uppers just for shooting steel case and other dreck so as not to subject my nicer rifles to it.... I would buy with fair optimism.

Are you referring to the nitro-carburising on the barrels and(or)BCG?

Correct. The PSA has a nitride finish on the barrels (slicker, shinier, but more more durable than the matte anodized finish). I do like it. It's just a bit different than the finish on my other AR barrels. But, just for the fun of picking nits, the anodizing on my PSA lower receiver is much deeper black than most of my other ARs (Colt, Bushmaster)

The one thing I don't like is PSA's glossy black delta ring - not sure why PSA went that route, rather than a matte or duller finish on the delta ring.

Others may have had different experiences, but I'd also not that the texture of PSA handguards seems to differ a bit from color to color. For example, my black PSA carbine handguards are very close to a Colt in texture. But I also have PSA uppers in OD and light gray. The latter two were very slick - I switched those out almost immediately - too slick for handling with sweaty hands IMHO, and with a little oil it was like trying to grab onto a greasy banana.

I believe CMM was correcting a mistake in your post: aluminum (receivers) are anodized, barrels and bcgs typically are manganese phosphate coated or, as you pointed out, nitrocarburized.
