Anyone out there ever played around with recreation of a 12 gauge Black powder paradox load.
What sort of wad column would one use? Nitro card over powder, greased felt cushion. JUst wondering , 4 to 5 drams of 1F behind a paradox bullet would be pretty stout, would I be risking my hide and try it in my 870 with a rifled barrel or wait until I obtain a Savage 212 slug gun.
Thanks for listening

A paradox load is a bullet fired from a smooth bore with rifling only on muzzle end. Neither of your two guns fit that description.

While I find cleaning a single shot BPCR simple, I don't think I would want to have to muck out a pump gun shot with black.
If you don't mind, it should work ok.
What bullet?

Ross Seyfried did a thorough write up on making an original Westley Richards paradox gun work with black powder. It was decades ago, though, and I'll have to dig a little to find it. is that the sort of info the O.P. is looking for?

I think I do. A Chiappa 1887 lever action with a Calrson rifled choke. I am currently using some cupped 730 gr. .69 Minie balls.
I previously tried 22 gr. of Unique and found it to be a fairly mild load. Likewise found to be mild was 3.6 drams of FFF.
In search of a little more thump I worked up to 5 drams of FFF (cardboard wad over the charge), some 16 gauge fiber wads and a shot cup to hold the Minie ball. Firing pictured below. It feels about right (thump!) and is at least as accurate as some old Remington commercial slug loads I have laying around.
I am currently loading some with 25 gr. of Unique for more velocity, but haven't tried those yet.
In my online readings I see some using 2 ounce slugs seated behind 30 gr. of Unique or 60 gr. of 2400, but I haven't gone there yet. Personally I suspect Unique is a little too fast to go much, if at all, over 25 gr. I think if I was going to try 2400 with a heavy slug I would start at about 45 gr.

Obviously a chronograph reading would help.

I guess some of you can take the recoil a bit more than me. Your 3.6 dram load of 3F [ no less ] is 98grs of powder and a 5 dram load is 136.5grs, Your 730gr minne ball weighs 2.92 oz, or damn near 3 oz. And you fit all that with a shot cup in what length shotgun 12ga shell ? I shoot 3 dram 1 1/8oz loads in my 12ga guns and find that more than what I'd want for very many shots. 50 or 100 SCs and 75gr 3F charge with 1oz of shot is fine, thank you. If I were you I'd be pressure testing some of the loads you're thinking about.
