Hello, I did a search but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I would like a security box for my 870 HD that can be mounted to the wall similar to Mossberg's LocBox. However, it appears as if the LocBox requires the action to be open during storage. I would like to keep my shotgun "cruiser ready" while it's being stored.

Are there any similar security devices out there that will secure the firearm with the action closed so I don't have to either unload the shotgun before I secure it or keep the action open when it's out of storage and next to my bed at night? If I keep the mag full and open the action when I store it, I'll load a round when I take it out of storage and close the action.

I don't want a fully enclosed gun safe or cabinet. I already have one in the basement and am sick of walking my HD shotgun down two flights of stairs every morning to lock it up before leaving for work.

Thanks for your help.

Go to..................... http://www.galls.com

click on vehicle accessories the click on gun racks and locks. They sell one for around $60 - $70 for a shotgun that you unlock with a cuff key or you can run a hidden electronic switch. Its a common shotgun cruiser mount for a 870.

Hope that helps.

can someone explain the rationale behind to mossberg version to have the slide back in storage? Would you keep a loaded sg like that, with a shell on the lifter thing?

Its the manufacture covering their ass. Imagine a loaded Shotgun stored by the parent in a rack like that. The trigger is not covered. Kid walks up, pushes the safety off while trying to defeat the lock - then pulls trigger blowing ones head off!

I would say that is the reason.

Yes. I think that would work great. I have thjought about buying one myself and mounting it up under the edge of my bed. Easy to get to but out of the way and secured.

I realize I'm being extra extra picky here...

Anything out there that covers the trigger while it's being stored? I really like what halfacop found for me, but it appears as if someone could walk up to the shotgun, rack it, and pull the trigger while it's locked up. I can't find a picture of a shotgun in the lock, but it looks like it isn't designed to cover the trigger.

I suppose I could position the mounted lock in such a way that if it was fired while secure, it would only shoot directly into a wall. I'd have to make sure someone couldn't physically stand in front of the muzzle. Hmmm...

perhaps you could rig this to a backer and mount it for storage. This would allow you to store the SG magazine loaded, chamber open (but chamber is covered by device) then when you need it......unlock, pump and sqeeze.

The lock fits into the chamber somewhat (if I understand it correctly) this would keep it from being able to be cycled while in storage. Might work nicely.

You could rack the SG, pull the trigger then rack it open. Sneak some rounds in the magazine under the forearm. Then drop a hot round in the chamber and lock it up. The lock fits into the open chamber so it could not be cycled but if you need it you just need to unlock, throw the pump forward and your down on a hot round.

Not ideal but it could work. But if you consider that it only takes a second to cycle a "cruiser ready" SG, time is negligable.

You do seem to have discovered an unoccupied niche in the market here. Items that are available do not seem to cover the trigger, instead they cover the action and assume that you want to leave it unloaded. Perhaps some of them cover the safety as well? That would prevent a loaded shotgun from being discharged even if you left it loaded.

Try www.streichers.com

They also have some locks similar to the stuff from galls. If I remember correctly they might have something more reasonably priced also.
