Perhaps 3rd times the charm for WI Concealed Carry

Looks like this might pass, which is very good. May even be voted on for the first time by the end of May. I guess they are deciding whether you will need a permit or not, would be nice if you didn't need a permit.

Also looks like Illinois might get enough votes to make their similar bill veto-proof, since the governor said they'd veto it.

Actually it looks like the permit required bill might be a better deal. Includes a provision granting an exception to the current law that requires unloaded and cased in motor vehicles, and makes reciprocity with other states much simpler.

Public hearings coming up soon in Madison and Wausau, attend if you can. Especially the Madison one, that will be full of pseudo-intellectual elitist anti-gunners. (For you non-Wisconsinites, Madison is like the Berkeley of the midwest.)

yea. we noticed

Couldn't help but see all those fine union teachers and cohorts destroy your statehouse! I believe Wi. will have CC before Il and that will make us the only odd man out. One would think that was enough hint for the asshats in Springfield and Chicago!

Need to update my prior post a little. This is just preliminary information, but I believe it to be correct:

The bill requiring no permit does away with the unloaded/cased requirement. The bill requiring a permit allows carry within 1000' of schools and such and has reciprocity.

Really we need provisions of both- in many communities there are enough "prohibited areas" as to make carry practically impossible, and having to clear and case a weapon upon entering and exiting a vehicle certainly makes carry impractical.

NRA-ILA has great current information on this, and is updating as new developments arise.

About time WI and IL join the "free states"!!

Pretty sure the IL bill died in the state Senate.

But there's no way the WI bill could fail.

Firstly, never say never.

But the Illinois one failed.....looks like they may try another vote in a few days, they were 5 shy I believe.

And hopefully the WI one will pass with no problem.

We do have our work cut out for us with the vote coming likely, the first part of June. I did have to share remarks from a fellow forum member elsewhere........

Senate Bill 93 (sb93) is constitutional carry with optional permit system.

Should be voted on in June - but there are people looking to amend this bill and put more restrictions in. If you are a Wisconsin resident, contact your state senator and tell them to support sb93 as is - also contact your state representative and insist on a similar bill to pass in the assembly. Very easy to find your rep or senator and send an e-mail.

I did write a couple letters earlier today. So should you. Please take five minutes and let's make it happen.

Thanks!

Doug B., my wife and I moved from WI to AL last year. If there are any legislators in particular who need to be contacted, please post their names here. My wife and I travel to WI often, and I'd like to be able to carry legally for a change. I can get WI relatives to make phone calls if there's swing legislators.
