I have had exceptional luck with two 700s in .308 - the old 700 VS and later the 700P. I would like to try a 700LTR (Light Tactical Rifle) or SPS Tactical one of these days.
I voted Savage. I really like what they have done so far. Not only have they turned their own company around, now Remington has to compete with their changes. They have gone from near bankruptcy to "Catch-me-if-you-can".
my inner 'tactical timmy' is slightly favoring the SPS 20" barrel over the 26" savage barrel
My personal preference, for no real reason other than I got a cheap used one with a great trigger several years ago (and I like the barrel length), is the 700 LTR. I voted PSS in the poll as that seemed closest.
a lot of great suggestions, however its labelled on the poll but doesnt stand out much as i wish to have emphasized for this. SOMEWHAT AFFORDABLE. i do admire the Tikka TRG-22, but i got bills guys... this honestly is a practical poll because its helping me lean on my next 308 project, so your information, advice, and coaxing will determine what goes mounted on the wall next
I didn't vote as I haven't even seen any of those rifles in the poll, let alone handling one, so I said what I'd buy as a .308cal rifle. Sure the TRG ain't cheap, but it's very capable, around 1/3 to 1/2 moa at various distances that I've seen, with match ammo.
FN PSR series? I had a PBR XP that was a fantastic shooter, but I hated the rubber covered Hogue stock. Now you can get a McMillan hunter style, if you don't want the more 'tactical' SPR.
If the answers are limited to ONLY the choices in the poll, I picked the Savage. My choice was based on the fact that the Savage action, however lacking in refinement compared to others, is reliable and accurate and can be home-smithed (including replacing the barrel) by just about anyone that can turn a wrench.
