Pet peeve!

Mine:
On gun forums when someone post they can't conceal anything bigger than a little pocket 380, but in reality its won't.
Appropriate use of can't: I can't conceal bigger than a pocket 380 because of work attire, best I can do.
Appropriate use of won't: I won't conceal bigger than a pocket 380 because although I can dress how I choose I won't untuck my shirt, best I'm willing to do.
can't =/= won't

Rant on,

PEOPLE THAT CALL MAGAZINES CLIPS!

Work P/T in a LGS. Really bugs me and I'm tired of correcting them.
I'm to the point if they call and ask for a particular "clip" I tell them we are all out of "clips"

Rant off
Doc.
What do you say when the ask for a STICK for their Glock? STICK is the new slang for extended Magazines.
I guess younger people have to come up with new names for things so that they can sound cool.

People that call the firing pin safety in a Kimber II 1911 a "Schwartz" firing pin safety.

The inventor's name was "Swartz". It is a "Swartz" firing pin safety. The excuse of "well, I just spell it the way it is pronounced", is also lame.

Request for a "stick"is usually followed by "for my Glock 40, nine?
Sorry we don't carry them, we really don't

Can’t say that I have a pet peeve that gets under my skin. But when people exaggerate about what they can do with their guns, just makes me shake my head. Like the guy at the local gun shop that told me that the 300 Blackout was the best caliber for hog hunting. He told me that he kills hogs at 300 yards using subsonic ammo with his suppressed AR15. And that he does this all the time. o_O

Most of the time I try my best to ignore the bad info/comments spewed by some. Unless the advice is unsafe and can cause injury or death.

One of the stories that sticks in my mind is when I was at my LGS and two guys came in and were looking at a 1911. They were both of average to bigger in size especially compared to my skinny 150 pound build. What got me was that one told the other that there was no way he could conceal a FS 1911. The shop owner instantly looked at me to see what my reaction was going to be knowing that I do carry 1991s all the time. I let them banter back and forth for a couple of minutes before saying anything. I asked the one why he thinks no one can conceal a 1911 and he mumbled about the size. I said "oh really" and then asked him what he thought I was carrying inf anything at all. He couldn't answer so that is when I showed him that I was concealing a FS 1911 just fine.

I guess the other thing that bothers me quite a bit is when a guy brings his wife/girlfriend in to look at pistols and insists that she gets what he likes instead of what fits her. A lot of times the shop owner will give her advice and then ask me for my opinion.

People that use Cooper's firearm Conditions of Readiness to describe how they carry their firearm, a firearm that is incapable of being described within the confines of Cooper's Conditions of Readiness...

"I carry my S&W 686 in Condition 1, with all chambers loaded", or "my Beretta 92FS is always carried in Condition 1".

I have a acquaintance who swears that his 7mm Magnum rifle is zeroed at 200 yards and at 400 yards shoots 2 inch's low. Same point of aim. I say impossible but he swears by it. He has a buddy that handloads special ammo for him. He doesn't know what powder or bullet that this guy loads for him. Obviously he doesn't know anything about ballistics either. It's a pet peeve of mine but I no longer bring the subject up.o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

What do you do when you find a particular "magazine" in your inventory that is in a factory package that states "clip" on it's packaging? Immediately throw it in the trash?

I have a little suggestion. Lighten up on the peeves a little and your digestion will improve and your customers will appreciate you more relaxed attitude. Remember the old saying, "The customer is always right". Even though they might not be most won't appreciate your correction and will go someplace that doesn't give them a lesson in terminology the next time they want to purchase something..

I’m with you about the magazine thing. Some people say, “Well, you know what they meant.” But that’s not always true. Sure, if someone asks for “.45 Long Colt” that can only mean one thing. But a magazine and a clip are two different things. I’ve had customers ask for a clip for their SKS and I didn’t know if they actually wanted stripper clips or they wanted a magazine for their Tapco conversion. And when you sell cans of 5.56 ammo that come on stripper clips, that can get downright confusing for some people. I’m pretty sure I’ve had more than a few customers who couldn’t understand how 420 rounds of ammo pre-loaded into magazines could fit inside that small ammo can.

At a certain home&garden store that also sells guns.... salesperson tells customer "Kimbers are notorious for wearing out fast because of their aluminum frame. Besides, why would you carry something that expensive? If you ever shoot someone it'll get confiscated. It'll be in evidence for years, and if you ever get it back it'll be a rusted pile of crap" After the customer left, I politely asked how the heck is the junky aluminum gun gonna rust so badly.

It’s a know fact that many people know a lot about things they know very little about.:)

In a word "Hollywood".

Almost impossible to watch any movie,tv show, news program, any and everytime they feel the need to mention or show a firearm = they do it WRONG !.

Either finger on the trigger, wrong caliber for that gun, hammer down on a FIRING 1911,gun locked back [ empty ] and still shooting, the list is a great deal longer.

And the truly annoying part is,they HIRED and have on staff a "expert" who I am sure told them the proper way to use a firearm.

OH and do not forget that ALL who use a gun,MUST keep it up near their face so the gun is in the same frame as their face !!

Rant off !.
