Pete was a good family friend who passed away some time ago. I've since been happy to offer my time to his widow, to research, appraise, clean, repair and eventually sell some of the guns Pete left behind. I thought the knowledge here would be especially helpful in this regard, especially since some of these models are completely unknown to me. I apologize for not cleaning these guns up before I took the pictures.

We'll take it one gun at a time due to the size and amount of these pictures. More than anything though, I wanted to share with this community this collection, be it what it is, as a tribute to a man I had the great opportunity to know.

First up is one of his father's many shotguns. Pete's dad was passionate about wing-shooting and from the looks of the shotguns that he passed down to Pete, I tend to believe that he dallied in trap and/or skeet. We'll get to all that in the upcoming threads though.

This one is a J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co. Model 335 side by side 12 gauge shotgun.

This was obviously a gun that Pete's father used in the hunting fields. In what research I've been able to do, the manufacture date of this shotgun is in the neighborhood of that patent date; 1909-1915 is my guess.

I may not be the most informed person on this site but this is what I see. From what I know the Stevens was very common. I believed they made shotguns for hardware & department stores with the store name. The shotgun looks complete but well worn. Barring the fanatical Stevens collector I would say you might be able to get $200 - $400 from a private party and about $100-$150 from a gun dealer. Again, I am not too smart so lets sit back and see what others have to say about this nice ol double.

Here is one on Guns America for $325.00. https://www.gunsamerica.com/941866510/Stevens-Model-335-12-gauge.htm

I just think that there is not a big market for old , basically common, shotguns. I am the exception and would be happy to pay a decent price for an old shotty but then again I have old shotguns and old bolt guns. Also we must remember that the economy is not in a state where many people have extra cash to burn on collectables.

We aren't actually tossing these out on Gunbroker or Armslist. I hope nobody got the impression that I was trying to sell them here. That was not my intent.

His widow had me sell his pickup, first thing after he passed. And she prefers to meet and shake hands with the next owner of Pete's belongings and so that's sort of how were going about his guns, tools, etc.

Several of Pete's guns have already found new owners, but they are friends, family, friends of family and of friends. For now, his wife wants to know, or at least meet and know someone who knows the people who end up buying these things.

i have several old double barrel shotguns and at flea markets and gunshows i hunt old paper waxed shells in good condition and use them on slow walking rabbit hunts. it takes me back 65 years ago when my grand dad would take me rabbit hunting with him, i can close my eyes after firing at a rabbit and smelling the smoke and i,m a young boy again with my grand dad saying, if you keep missing them rabbits we will starve. if safe, the older fire arms deserve to go hunting from time to time. to look at that double barrel takes me back many years. eastbank.
