Artistic, sensitive, and a shooter...good combination for a human. One of these days We're going to run into each other...either at the range or a camera shop. Always enjoy see your work. Thanks for shareing!

I work as a professional photographer part of the time, mostly products and sometimes people for advertising.

I wish I'd known that you were going to the Defensive Edge last June. I took their Handgun I course last Summer, wish I could have arranged to meet you there.

Canon 10D, 28,50, 100 and 200mm lenses.

Well that ought to get the job done.

How are you liking your 10D? Is it everything Canon promised?

On a side note Oleg related to the topic, Oleg is a better shot than me with both of his "shooters". :p

Gotta practice more.

10D is an amazingly good camera. Image quality is definitel better than 35mm film. It handles well, has built-in spot flash meter. It has only one flaw and that is the physically small sensor. That means the lens covers more than the sensor or the viewfinder and that, in turn, means that wide lenses aren't that wide and also that flare from backlight is hard to prevent. Someday, I'd like to get the full-frame 1DS (11MP, 100% finder) as I like to use backlight a lot. At $7,000 price, it won't be anytime soon.

Not much, actually. 50/1.8 v.1 was about $80 used, 28/2.8 $180 used, 100/2.8 macro about $510 new and 200/2.8 $680 new. Some of the glass I'd like has come down in price recently, some has gone way up. But I need to keep on bringing revenues for a while before I can justify or afford more gear. When I go to Minneapolis/St.Paul later this year, part reason will be to do another advertising shoot.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 5700. Some day I'd like to get a DSLR, but for now I'm sticking with the Prosumer level cameras as I couldn't afford the same range of glass in a DSLR. ( I do a lot of landscape and wildlife shooting).

Nice photos Oleg. Where did you find those bizarre insects?

I've been thinking abou the Canon digital line, but have avoided the 10D because of the size of the image sensor and subsequent "zoom" of all of my lenses. Has this been an issue for you? I didn't realize the 10D had a spot meter. How big is the spot? Does it allow you to set the white or black point when you take the photo?

Spot isn't all athat small, maybe 4-5% of the finder screen. Works with manually fired pre-flash, too. Zoom effect is nice for tele lenses. You can set color balance and conrast, even after you take the photo (using RAW format) but not white/black points as such. Does show histogram after you take the picture. All in all, an amazingly useful tool.

What camera do you use?

This joke often is told with a photographer and a writer. I'll need to change it slightly to fit this forum. ;)

There was once a man who - through numerous worldwide competitions - was named "Overall World Firearms Champion". Let's call him "Bill".

Time Magazine sent one of their top-rated photographers to do a photo essay. Bill was impressed with the size of the photographer's cameras and lenses and said, "Boy, if I had a setup like that, I'd be a good photographer too."

To which the photographer replied, "And if I had firearms like you have, you'd be taking pictures of me."

There's more to it than equipment.

Without doubt Oleg has a great deal of talent, but using the analogy provided by you, I can respect the talent of shooter, while still drooling overs his tools.

It's just like the gun porn threads we see here all the time. And since cameras seem to be a common vice for some of us, it's fun to discuss the gear.
