A while back, a member of the shooting club I belong to was selling a 642 w/ Crimson Trace grips and a fluff & buff by a local, well-respected 'smith for $375. I wanted it but I already had a 642 (that I bought off yet another member earlier for $295) and didn't have the cash and another club member bought it.

Recently, I decided I wanted to pick up a spare J-frame, preferably a 642 so I posted in a couple of places to see what turned up--one of the places being my club's forum. The member that bought the 642 I referenced earlier contacted me and said he had it for sale. Wanted $350. I put two and two togther and determined this was the same gun so I agreed and the exchange was made.

I put the grips up for sale for $200 and ended up getting $180 for them. I bought a Hogue Bantam grip for $21 and replaced the CTs. Now, I have a very nice 642 with a smoothed out trigger job for less than $200. Not a bad week's worth of effort.

Coincedentally, both of these guns were given out as prizes at the 2004 GA state IDPA match. And yes, I looked to see if they were sequential serial numbers and they aren't (bummer).
