Not really where I wanna be
I've been contemplating a new 22 lr pistol ever since ammo started to become available again. Initially I was leaning towards a S&W 41 or a Volquartsen Scorpion. The more research I did the more I became convinced that I could build something almost as good as either one of those for roughly the same price except with the exact options that I wanted instead of having to settle for whatever they offer.

Enter the Ruger Mk IV target. Since I already have a Mk III 22/45 that's been upgraded with Volquartsen trigger components that transformed the gun into a real shooter, the Ruger seemed like the right place to start. The pistol is basically a plain Jane target model with a grip upgrade.

After looking the gun over and getting accustomed to the much simpler take down process it appears that this is going to work out just fine.

I was suspicious of the trigger right off the bat....even before the gun got here. So I ordered the Volquartsen accurizing kit just in case the trigger sucked. As it turned out I was right. The trigger was pretty much horrid. Luckily the kit got here a few days before the gun did so I was able to put it in even before firing the first shots. Having previously installed a VQ kit this one went it with relative ease. I must say that the resulting trigger is incredible. Money well spent.

When I see how well it shoots tomorrow I'll also be contemplating if anything else gets upgraded. There are several other things that I had in mind other than the trigger......If the gun performs at a reasonable level, as is, I'll just leave it......of course that's a big "IF".....sometime I can't leave well enough alone!

Congrats on the new Ruger Mk.IV! Keep us posted as to it's accuracy potential and what possible future updates you might be contemplating. Also try as many different brands of ammo as you can find. A lot of .22 pistols and rifles can show a definite preference for certain brands.

I'll definitely run it through its paces.......plenty of different types and brands of ammo to try. I really hope it likes CCI SV though.....there's lots of that on the shelf here. Luckily I haven't run into a firearm yet that didn't like it.

My mk4 really likes cci sv. Now what to do with all the mini mags? :)

Most of my .22 handguns and rifles do very well in terms of accuracy and reliability with CCI ammo. Same goes for Wolf Match Target ammo too!

I’ve been debating on getting the same target model you did or the 6” standard. There’s just something about that tapered barrel, but then again I like the thought of adjustable sights. I know, I know, just get both!

Congrats to the OP on the new pistol. I own the Mark III Hunter and it is the most accurate handgun I have ever shot. I put a reddot on it and it's almost like cheating.

My Mark III Hunter shoots CCI SV, but it won't cycle the bolt fully. CCI Mini-Mags cycle the bolt and are really accurate. My Mark III 22/45 has no problem with CCI SV.
