These days displaying anything of value in your vehicle is a good way of getting a window knocked out.
A buddy of mine got his window knocked out because a cup holder full of change.

That’s the modern version, at least around here.

I have the jeep version and modified it by removing one side of the holders turning it into a one gun rack. It sat so far back it was annoying with two. I kept bumping it with my hat. I have it mounted just behind the sunshades which are pretty much worthless and it doesn't interfere with them but makes it easy to carry one rifle. It's perfect for my Rossi 92.

I used the old rear window version in my welding rigs for years as they were perfect for a 4' level.

It keeps things hidden from quick view , or just throw a jacket or something if you go in a store or something. Easy to just roll down a window and poke the rifle out for a quick shot at a varmint without scaring them off opening a door , if that's legal in your area.

Newer trucks the window is angled more so the over the sun visor is right at your forehead. Most newer trucks are extended or quad cab where the back window is further back, but they have fold up rear seats that you can place a lot under.

This subject came to mind recently with the beginning of deer season. I have been using a revolver for decades but this year had occasion to take a rifle.

Went out to the truck, opened the door and thought to myself.....where am I going to put this? I didn't like the idea of laying the case on the floor behind the seat but had no other choice.

As far as the overhead racks, I'm 6'3", not gonna happen.
