pieces parts for an AR build

I'm going to build another AR and am interested in what others recommend for the parts kit, trigger, upper et.al. It always seems the parts kit is the cheapest way to get a functional gun but if you substitute anything you end up with unneeded parts. I've got 2 (right handed) safeties from previous builds since I substituted Ambi safeties. Aggravating. BTW anybody have a parts kit you don't need give me a shout.

What is your goal for the gun? 20" varmint, 16" M4gery, 10.5" pistol w/ arm brace? Extreme accuracy, plinker, or something else?

I too am building an AR. Senior project. I found a DPMS 5.56 upper shipped for 349.00 I know DPMS is not top of the line but I bet it will fire. As for parts kits. I found one on amazon. I think extra is better than missing. On the subject of extra I am in need of a buffer tube, spring, and stock. Wink wink

Palmetto state usually has parts kits in stock. I've been watching for them to have a stock parts kit with a Geissel FCG deal again...

FYI, they also often have lowers for $49, and AIM Surplus sometimes has Anderson lowers for $39 or $42 with a forged-in triggerguard.

CMMG makes a great upper/lower parts kit, their single stage trigger is pretty good for a basic setup

You can build an AR into all sorts of different things. What do you want this one to do?

Final purpose GREATLY affects what kinds of parts would work.
